The SZ-281P (great laptop save for one glaring flaw) came with an external WAN antenna mounted on the right side of the chassis, attached via the hinge unit. It is only a matter of time before the antenna breaks off (a very poor design - an external antenna for a laptop!?) The antenna pops off but leaves a 'hole' in which dirt, etc could enter the machine. Is there a way to remove the 'antenna jack' from the chassis and use an 'end cap' similar to the one on the left hinge to cover the hole? A schematic and/or other assistance would be greatly appreciated.

did the removal of this antenna effect your wireless reception at all? or is this antenna just for the cingular service? because if it is I wouldn't hesitate to remove it myself since I'll never use the service anyway. I'm sure I could find something to wedge in there to cover up the hole.

I have a TX650 which happens to have the same "antenna", but I haven't take it off since I have neither found something to cover the hole. If you guys find anything, let me know.

The external antenna should not affect wireless LAN, only WAN (Cingular), because all of the SZ series are wireless LAN capable. Since there have been a lot of views of the original post, anyone interested in a solution should contact Sony Parts, at 800-488-7669, to 'motivate' them to find a solution.
