hey guys
i have a Vaio SZ780...and well, its getting quite hot..its just 3 months old...and when it was new, it didnt get this hot...today, after a defrag, it got really hot, and even the keyboard/track pad area got very hot...is it normal when u do tasks like this for it to heat so much? im a bit worried, as i really like this laptop and its very new still....is there anything i can do? ive undervolted my CPU, and i thought that should REDUCE heat..o guess its not the CPU thats heating up...ah, i dunno, let me know, guys..thanks!

You may want to clean the fans with a can of compressed air or something...

well, to check the temperatures, download nvidia system tools 6.02 since you have an 8400. if you want overclock, you can, otherwise you can monitor the components with the system monitor. all the temps it gives are right on and perfect. pc wizard, speed fan, rightmark, they dont give the right temps. only nvidia system tools. download it at laptopvideo2go, and check out the temps.

thanks, i'll do that..but wat do i do if the temp is too high? wats the normal temp etc? will this tool give me all that, something to compare?
Speed, i will try cleaning out the fans with something, thanks -
Are you primarily running it in Stamina Mode or Speed Mode? If Speed check the temperature polls for the 8400M in my signature (feel free to take the poll as well).
After an intense defragging session your hard drive will have higher temperatures than normal. That being said the trackpad should absolutely not be getting hot; that's most likely extra heat that isn't escaping from the chassis efficiently. Take @SPEEDwithJJ's advice and make sure the vents are clear. I'd also check for build up on the fan blades (requires disassembly). -
