I just got an SZ650 N/C with Vista Business loaded.

    I purchased a pair of 2GB memory modules. (non-Sony)

Upon installation, I should have 4 GB of memory.

The BIOS shows 3 GB of memory.
Vista shows 3 GB of memory.
CPU-z shows 4 GB of memory.

I called 4allmemory.com for tech support, and they said that many 32 bit systems only recognizes 3 gb of memory and the rest of the RAM is reserved for "System Resources." They suggested I ask Sony what system resources the extra gig is for. (Ha!)

So, is this 32 bit thingie true? Is there any way to get the full use of my 4 GB of memory? It appears that I can't edit the memory section of the bios. Helllp!?

The 3GB limit is normal for 32-bit Windows and is nothing to do with Sony.

If you would like the full 4GB then upgrade to 64-bit Windows.

So is the extra gig actually used for some "system resource"? Or just wasted with 32 bit?

Sounds like I should reinstall one of the 1GB modules, and return a 2gb to
    4allmemory ?

John is absolutely right from what I have read...only 64-bit Windows can utilize 4GB of RAM. If it was me I would probably just leave the 4GB installed since it is there already and get a 64-bit Windows when Service Pack 1 comes out for Vista.
