    I am curious as to whether the audio out on the SZ7 can act as a passthrough (mini 1/8" to coax converter) to deliver a digital stream to my dolby receiver. I am considering purchasing an SZ, but digital audio is a must and I would rather not have to use a usb to spdif converter.

    No, it can't. SZ has a simple analog output.
