Whenever I connect my Z21 to a new WLAN, LAN or WWAN network, I receive a PopUp from the Vaio Smart Network Software that I do not have a saved Profile for this Network.
As far as I understand this, it sometimes would be beneficial for me to indeed have a certain setup predefined.
Here is a typical scenario:
Working from my Home-Office, I use the default DHCP/DNS setting from my Internet-Provider. I also have configured my default printer in this Home-Network.
When I am travelling to my office in Italy, I would like to switch the default printer to the one in that office and I also need to define the DNS-Servers by the IP addresses used in that Network. I access that office network by a local WLAN with an extra VPN Layer.
In theory I can predefine those settings in the profile of the Vaio Smart Network Software. However it never worked out so far.
Every time I did predefine the setting the software asked me if I want to use the setting now. Of course I did, so the current Network connecting is disabled and the profile establishes a new one. This takes a few seconds, then I am hooked up again to the same network, however I am not able to use any ressources at all, not even the internet anymore.![]()
Is anybody out there that can give me a 101 how this needs to be configured?![]()

I've got a similar issue upon switching from home wlan over to public hotspots; ipconfig /release and consequentially /renew doesn't always do the trick and a reboot is required...really wierd. I've tried out the Sony Smart Network, bt like you say, nothing seems to be working iow, it does seem to switch to the designated profile but no internet.. Switching at home from wlan to lan by simply turning wlan off and pluggin in the cable works fine (part of the same workgroup). Rather than troubleshooting this flaw I'd advise to ignore the Sony profile prompt and either contact your corporate IT Administrator to figure out a way to tie the default printer to your vpn profile. or look for a third party solution that handles profiles better then the sony utility. Actually ..if you'd set up a Workgroup at home with a dedicated printer and you setup a preferred printer in your office network, your OS settings should pick it up themself the moment you switch, no? Moreover the dns settings should be provided automatically by the vpn connection iow corporate network. Again, a IT Administrator should resolve any issues on your company laptop.

Fair enough.
However it would be great to use pre-defined profiles as the Sony Smart Network Software suggests.
I was not to succesful yet to find the right config. Maybe the software needs some update?
