I was wondering if any users there who upgraded from a Vaio T to a TX have anything to say about their newer purchase compared to their older one.
I saw a personal review of a TX owner on CNET and he said the T is overall the better machine due to it being built more sturdily, having a better keyboard and less heat/fan noise. What do you guys have to say about this? I've seen a couple of other users on the Siliconpopculture forums complain about their TXs a bit too....sounds discouraging.![]()
Also, I heard that the Ts only come with a standard battery, which is actually an extended battery that sticks out the back a bit and Sony says gives up to 8.5 hours of battery life, which I know is not true. Anyways, I hear the standard battery for the TX gives that same amount but that there's an extended battery which Sony says gives up to 14 hours of juice but that a TX user complains that it looks very ugly and raises the notebook a bit. Is this true?

It's a little small, but gives you an idea of how the extended battery of TX looks.

i have the tx650...had a friend who had the t350...let me tell you he was insanely jealous of the tx....i don't know where people are saying that the tx is less sturdily built...it is incredibly built..yes it does have some flex to the keyboard..but a minor issue..the lcd is very thin and amazing in itself...what will you be doing it in order to cause it damage anyway?...common sense is in order...the thing is amazingly light..can pick it up with four fingers...the case is non-smudging...sleek and just looks fine...and then there is the battery...i consistently get 5.5-6hrs..with the STD BATTERY & LCD ON FULL BRIGHT AND WIRELESS ON!!..THAT TO ME IS FANTASTIC...the t is no wear near this...about the fan/heat noise...again don't know if people got a "bad batch"..but there is no fan/heat issues...fan is barely on if at all..during heavy applications...this is where power management settings is so helpful....keyboard is not cramped at all..typing this reply on it...very smooth...one more thing..watching dvd's is great too...no problems at all..there is minor light leakage at the bottom of the screen..very minor and barley an issue....well, i don't work for sony or anything..just my humble opinion on my tx650...

Any notebook I'd have, I'd treat it like it was my baby, I'd be so delicate with it. I was just worried the TX's screen would be a lot more fragile that mosts because its so thin because its the only LED notebook screen on the market right now.
Glad to hear the positive things you said about the TX, though I still pretty much favor the T over the TX, call me crazy I suppose. -
And I'm not saying that TX isn't good. It's great but autonomy haven't increased, at least not considerably... -
I have used my TX for about 36 days or so.
It is brilliantly made machine. Pack so much in so little space. Making electronic small is something that SONY is known to do well and this is not easy to do.
Just like ANY micro electronics from SONY, you have to handle TX with care as well; if you owned mirco MD player/recorder/CD player you will know what I mean.
TX's body flexes, but I do not know if that translates to a poor construction. I have no way of knowing if TX is built tougher than T or other notebook PCs in it's class. I have yet to see any fracture test report on TX.
However, TX works nicely from my experiece. I can take it from an elegant coffee shop to a busy train where space is very limited. No matter where you go, people will turn their head when they see TX.
TX is very easy to use and all the components works well. TX is not a fastest machine, again, TX is not built for speed. Rather it is built for mobility and usability at a remote location.
It looks awfully bad to see when people carry this HUGE DELL or TARGUS notebook PC bag for their notebook PC. What's worse is when I see people try to pull out a big and heavy PC out from the bag and place it on their lap and use the PC. So many struggles; been there and done that.
I carry my TX in a slim leather/briefcase. No one can tell that I am carrying my entire office.
If you value this kind portablity and usablity, then TX will be the right PC for you. If you do not, then go lesser expensive, faster and BIGGER notebook PC. -
The Ts and TXs get around the same battery life because although the TX's screen consumes less power, the savings are eaten up by its more power hungry chipset.
Though the TX has an option for an extended battery which gives up to 14 hours of battery life, wish they made that for the Ts. Oh well.
Vaio T to TX users?
