Hi,
I've had my Vaio TX750 for the past 7 months and it's a great notebook. However, there are a couple of things which I need to replace:
- LCD: ~$350 (Cracked accidentally, still useable but would rather get a new one within the next few months)
- Battery: ~$125 (Was already lightly used for a year before I bought it, but now it only holds about 2.5 hours worth of charge because I use a full cycle almost everyday)
I am hesitating to replace these because I am afraid that once I fix these, something else will popup (ie. the hard drive). The manufacturer specification says 300 000 hours and five years is how reliable these hard drives are, but I've read around that they aren't too reliable and fail often. Does anyone know after about how many hours or load cycles the hard drive usually fails (in real life)?
This is what my hard drive health looks like so far:

The USED MK8007GAH on ebay is about $250, and IMO this is a very steep price to pay for a used hard drive. The MK8009GAH for ~$100 (the new replacement model) uses a different connector so I won't be able to use that. So here is what I am thinking:
- If my hard drive still has a few years left in it, I will replace the LCD and Battery and keep going.
- If my hard drive is going to fail soon (ie. within the next year), then it will not be worth it for me to replace the battery and LCD, since when the HD fails it will be useless.
Please take into account that I am trying to keep my expenses to a minimum. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
**EDIT: About the reliability of the hard drive, the toshiba site says 300 000 hours MTTF, but product life only 20 000 hours or five years? What is the difference?
