After months of browsing for potential laptops by every manufacturer possible, I came to the conclusion that I am still enamoured with the 7h battery life and 11" monitor of the TX. So I go back to the Sonystyle.ca website to make a purchase...but they seem to have discontinued it, as it isn't available on the site anymore. :|

It is still being sold on the US site, but the US site does not ship to Canada. ARRRRRRRRRGH.

Does anyone know if the TX-series notebooks are still available to purchase in the Sony Stores?

I read a thread on this board about Sony working on a new TX2 series. Do you suppose that's why the TX ones have been pulled? But why are they still on sale in the States but not Canada? :S

Does anyone know when the TX2 series is going to be released in Canada? And what improvements over the original TX series notebooks that they have in store for the TX2? I wonder if it is worth waiting for the TX2 to be released. I definitely need a laptop by September of this year though. Originally I had wanted to wait until Windows Vista to be released so I could get the latest Windows OS with my laptop, but it doesn't look like Vista is gonna be out anytime soon. :|

I was in the Sony Style store in Costa Mesa, California today, and the units are still on display. They are out of stock, but I was able to order a unit (my 2nd). I was not told anything about them not be built anymore, but they did tell me that another TX was coming out soon. The impression I got was that the new one was being released to compliment, not replace.

Yes, I bought a 2nd TX. My business partner went mad when he saw me return from the holiday with mine, so I ordered him one. The screen is amazing, but that's true with any Vaio I think. As for the battery, I don't know that I'm getting 7 hours, but it's up there. I'm really happy with it. I'm thinking about getting the larger battery for when I travel, but I'm not even sure I need it.

Get the TX. You'll really like it.

meijikari, have you actually tried that laptop yourself? First of all, it's very small and if you haven't used something that small I recommend you try first. My girlfriend had the older T-series vaio laptop (10.6") and was upgrading to new one but those TX-vaios have some really weird keyboard?! She couldn't type with it, and neither could I. The buttons feel like 'touchbuttons' or like. But if you can manage, it's maybe the sweetest laptop there is!

I think Sony may have under produced TX (may be for TX2) or they did not expect TX would be such a hit.

I think CTRL key of TX is difficult to use, but I do not think anyone can do much better given a tight space.

Also, TX's optical drive's performance is real questionable. Really slow sometimes.

But overall, the unit works well. I would not trade it for any other notebook PCs due to it's compactness, wieght, and ultra bright screen!

haha, actually no I have not touched a TX in real life before! But I have seen 2 people in my city so far that have been using them. I fell in love with it when I saw the size of it. I have been in the Sony Stores around my area, but I can't find the TX anywhere, so I can't test it out :(.

Only difference I know between the TX2 and TX is that the TX2s have no fan.

    Here is why:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=1244361#post1244361

Bought it before Christmas. Travelled to europe, and watched 2 DVDs, listened to music with a regular battery. The flight was 9 hours!

Hard to let go, but I need one that has extreme external video support.

I am in the Toronto area, let me know if you are interested.

The TX2 will have a fan, i just attended a sony europe webinar and they had a bit about the tx2, it will have the same fan as the tx1, the only difference is the harddisk, this is now a perpendicular version.

i thought sony europe has been saying it will have a "fan-free cooling gift" whatever that means.

Were they not able to come up with a efficient fanless design in time?
