Does anyone have a link to or can directly provide me a service manual to the Vaio TX laptops? Specifically, the TX790P? I'd like to open up my LCD perhaps and would like to look at this manual for reference. I've only seen it being sold on Ebay and can't find it anywhere else. If its illegal to post it, then please let me know and I apologize in advance.

Here is the 20 second search via google that found the official Sony link to your model's manuals

    Hello rahulnirmal

Can you post a picture of your TX. I really want to see that white line you are talking about.

    $460 is ridiculously cheap!

    Sorrie... kinda off topic... hehe

Yeah, $460 really is a fantastic price isn't it? I'm still so giddy. :D I bought it from someone in San Francisco via Craigslist.

I'm typing this on the Vaio right now and that line is really annoying. I really hope to get it fixed as soon as I can, but I'm also really busy with schoolwork right now. I really want to get it fixed.

I'm afraid those aren't the correct ones. I am looking for the service manual for it that will accurately detail how to take it apart and all of its parts. I know looking on HP's website, I easily found it for my Compaq V3000 but for Sony, they only have the regular manuals.

I would be really suprised if sony has those available anywhere. Notebooks, once you tear into them are all pretty similiar under the hood. The TX's are going to be a tighter configuration. But basically there should be a series or screws around the bottom of the machine. Once those are removed there are usually a series of plastic latches and catches that must be relieved in order to split the case. That is where it gets alittle tricky, you have to be careful that none of the delicate thin ribbon cables that connect things like the screen get damaged in you attemps to undo the various catches. If you have one of your old laptops I would take that apart first, maybe with some more technical friends looking over your shoulder giving you advice.

    Good Luck :)

I really don't think I will take it apart, I'm really horrible at taking things apart and putting them back together, no matter how easy it is, I'm so squeemish about doing it. :(

I might eventually muster the courage, but would much rather have a pro do it. Right now, I'm so darn busy with schoolwork.

I'd still like to get a look at the service manual. I don't get how it was really easy to find for my Compaq at their website.

Sorry Rahul - didn't look at the manual itself. If you take it apart bit by bit, and keep all the screws in separate piles according to where they came from, you should be able to reverse the process. I have done this on a few notebooks, and it has worked. Just keep in mind not to rip the cord that connect that mainboard to the LCD - there is a connector which will be a little tricky to remove. I mention that because it's possible to not see it when dismantling the LCD from the chassis.

That is a very huge line!

I think paying 500 or so to fix it is still worth it since its so cheap.
