    Hi TZ owners,

I`m in Japan, and currently I`m researching laptops to buy, and I seriously consider Vaio TZ as my next laptop. But I have several questions,

    1. I see that TZ has a 64GB SSD + 250GB 5400 RPM configuration. Is this means that the SSD is 1.8" and 250GB HDD is a 2.5" one?

    2. Can I replace the harddisk with Hitachi 500GB 5400 RPM 2.5" SATA? I plan to buy the lowest harddisk config available and swap it myself. But I need to make sure the size and the connector first.

    3. Is there someone can provide the link of TZ chassis opened? I realize that there is a Vaio TZ Owner thread, but the thread is too long (91 pages when writing) to browse.

With all of your kindness, thank you very much :)

    1. Yes, the SSD is instead of the internal 1.8" HDD and the 250GB is instead of the optical drive.

    2. The 2.5" HDD should be replaceable but not with the 500GB Hitachi which is 1/2" (12.7mm) thick instead of the standard 3/8" (9.5mm) thickness. Your current upper limit is therefore 320GB until the 3/8" thick Samsung 500GB HDD arrives on the shelves (it is said to be in production).

This thread gives details on the SSD replacement in the TZ. This thread includes photos of the 2.5" HDD configuration.

    Hope this helps,

    John
