I just received my new Vaio TZ notebook that I ordered online. A couple of cosmetic questions I was wondering if anyone else's are like this:

The touchpad is not centered in it's slot, it's pushed flush against the right side but there is a narrow gap on the left side I can fit the tip of my fingernail in. The top of the touchpad has a smaller gap but the bottom is flush with no gap. Is this normal or is mine installed slightly off?

Also, the power plug doesn't seat into the battery all the way, I can still see some of the metal. It and also seems a little crooked and loose?

Thanks in advance for any info on this!

My touchpad is perfectly flush. The power plug sounds normal - it is designed to go very deeply into the hinge.

I have a Vaio TZ150. My touch pad is similar to how the original poster described his.

I have no problems with the battery, though. Did you try locking it in place? There's a slider that says "lock".

Sony batteries are always a bit loose, at least in my experience.

    My touchpad is the same.

I think he's talking about the plug on the ac adapter sitting slightly lose in the hinge socket.

There's about 1 or 2mm of metal that doesn't fully disappear inside the power socket, but mine doesn't sit loose, you can wiggle it if you push on it, but it sticks out horizontally when it's plugged in.

In generaly the TZ doesn't have perfect fit and finish. Most small issues don't bother me, the only one that does is the battery being flush with the cylindrical hing on the right, but not on the left.

And regarding the power sittin loose, thats normal. It also doesn't plug in fully. Some people have used conductive tape to make the fit tighter but I don't think its necessary.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I took a special trip to the Sony Style in my area to look at some other TZ's in person, although they didn't have my model which is the White color. Just to re-confirm your replies, the touchpads were off-center just like mine. Since my TZ is White the touchpad being off center is much more noticeable than on the Black ones. The power plugs were sort of loose and didn't seat down all the way on the display models either.

I had also noticed the "battery being flush with the cylindrical hinge on the right, but not on the left" issue as bmoc posted about too! At least Sony is consistent with these slight build issues. :)

Thanks again for all the help!

Just pray you're not "lucky" enough to experience their build flaw with the battery clip...

    *snap*

It's also why the battery is more flushed on one side as opposed to the other. The right side is more rigid with the locking mechanism

How can I be careful not to end up with a breaking clip? What causes that?

I noticed it was hard to get the battery on it took a few tries to get it into place.
