I was browsing the Sony US website, and it appears that they're listing the TZ in the driver download section. So for those that have it and need drivers, here it is! But its weird that they haven't even announced the TZ for the US but yet already have drivers![]()
But at least this way, you don't have to worry about hunting down drivers if you decide to do a fresh install like me.
Not sure about XP though, but I suppose the same way that the SZ owners that want to install XP in place of Vista.
The model they list is TZ160C

Huh, that is interesting, looks like a U.S announcement is imminent.
-
Awesome! Thanks for this post.
I'll happily wait my TZ. -
Still no XP drivers...
But thanks! Great find!
-
Good Outrigger!
Waiting for the wireless n and after i will order TZ from pricejapan.com
From the site of Sony what type you download? Everything or the Original? -
Sorry for double post, but i have 2 more questions:
1)The Sony support says that the drivers are for Vista Business, i suppose that is the same for Vista Home Premium?
2) If you install a OS in a different language than english, the drivers will work the same? -
Same here! Someone can answer these questions?
I'm plannng to install a german copy exetlaios, you? -
Unfortunately, only a few of the drivers work on the Japanese TZ90, because they are 'for a different region'. Trust Sony to make life unnecessarily difficult for their clients....
-
I JUST found this out. Sony sure can make life difficult. which ones worked for you?
-
These are bad news. How we gonna manage? Maybe Sony will not put drivers for the japanese models so you have to buy TZ from US.
-
there is obviously a way around this as dynamism installs the vista in english and has all the drivers installed.
ubercool,
do you have the drivers for the english vista? -
I can't really tell you, I just went through all of them, but only three or four worked. Some of the others you can take from the TX5. The problem with the Japanese drivers is that they probably work, but expect for a few you can't identify them because you can't read the damn language. Also, as far as I can tell, you can only get the upgrades and would have to order a CD-Rom for the standard drivers and software, or so it seems.

Problem solved. Courtesy of this nice fellow here.

I installed all of the drivers with no issue. -
This is great... now if they would only announce a US model!
-
How you installed it? The Original or Everything?
-
Ha, I am a happy man. Thanks to the good people here on the forum, I've gotten everything to work wonderfully on this wonderful little computer. And phooey on Sony for making this unnecessarily difficult, but then I am not really surprised. They make wonderful machinery, but they don't know how to treat clients!
-
So you install the drivers of sony vaio FE890E?
Can you please explain how you put all the drivers in the TZ? It doesn't need a clean install of Vista(english) first? -
its quite simple. the TZ model listed on the sony US site is 160C, my model is 90HS, thus when you download all the original drivers/updates, it will check against your machine and if its not 160C, it won't install.
By following the link, you're basically fooling the model checker into thinking that your machine is really a TZ160C, its quite simple. I have everything working. But the only thing I don't have is the finger print scanner software. I do have the TPM driver, just don't know where to get the actual program. anyone knows? -
Thanks.
Ok, so you put at model.txt the TZ160C so you fool the checker eh?
1) Did you installed the english Vista first?
2) From the download link you choosen Everything or Original?
Enjoy you new TZ! How is going untill now? -
edited for change

I have a question for those that they plan to take TZ from japan. If you do a fresh install of a Vista Home Premium in a different language than english after you will be able to download the drivers from Sony US?
Thanks in advance. -
Great Outrigger
Can't wait to have mine also! You take the carbon fibre? The small antenna up to the screen that they show at their site in japan,is there? I already ordered an external HD, the WD passport 160GB.
For jack sparrow:
Men TZ is not for pirates
I think is ok if you install a non-English Vista and after you download the drivers in english. The machine should regognize it. -
Yeah, i'm a pirate with a future sexy laptop
No, seriously someone can rispond for sure in my question? Because if not, i will install an English Vista. -
I'm a little confused. First I install a full retail copy of Vista Business then I go to vista directory C:/windows and change the model.txt to 160C? after that I can install the 160C model drivers?
Do I need to install anything else before the drivers? I've checked the link and it said something about
"first download the Sony Utilities Driver Package, the Graphic Driver Package(Nvidia or Intel, the Nvidia driver seems to be the same to the one distributed through windows update, so maybe you can skip this one) and the Sony Shared dll package"
Do I need to install this after I install the English OS?
If you install a clean copy of Vista into your TZ wouldn't that wipe out all the info so there wouldn't even be Model.txt or Model name on the C:/windows directory. right?????
I'm sorry if this is a stupid question.
thanks in advance.
