I'd like to ask this to those who've owned their TZ for a while and have used it extensively.

How is it holding up? Have the keys worn down from frequent typing on the keyboard? Any issues cropped up.

I hear the webcam gets scratched when opening and closing the notebook so its recommended to place a soft cloth in between when closed.

I'll bet the glossy surface around the keyboard and Vaio logo on the lid would get scratched up quickly?

By the way, anyone know where I can buy the CooSkin keyboard skin for the TZ besides Ebay and in the U.S?

So far so good... daily user that spends over 8 hours a day in front of it... carry it to and from work... I use a cooskin so no wear so far. The external is fine, no scratches on the chrome vaio. I use a microfibre cloth and lcd screen cleaner once a week to get rid of specs on the screen. The webcam does get marks, but they wipe off. Stoopid sony design... never happened with my SZ which had the same layout and LED screen with webcam. When the handrest and mouse buttons get shiney with oil from my hands it wipes of and remains uniform. So far no glossy surface wear and tear... the cooskin is the best protection... cos its silicon the screen wont rub against the plastic keys if you have any accidental pressure when transporting it. Ebay is the best place to get it. Amazon has advertised it, but only select models.

Have you decided to pull the trigger rahul?

I'm very close from ordering from conics or pricejapan. I don't think I can wait untill this summer for the next generation of TZ.

jack -> get it from dynamism. they will almost match conics.

If you pay them by check/wire. There will be no 3.5% like at conics and the cost will be ~100 bucks more than conics, but the shipping will be less, so all and all it evens out.

the webcam issue is for those who slam their lids. as for the keyboard. it shines :) after several months. The TX keyboard survived me better than the TZ, but who cares. Are you buying this laptop for life? The coolskin is ok but annoying for those who type as fast as me. i already took mine off. It is beyond annoying....

Raul just get a laptop ;) already

The only thing I do on mine is clean the piano black area with a micro fiber cloth once a week cuz I hate seeing finger prints. Other than that I've had no issues. I'd highly suggest getting the leather sony sleeve. There's one on ebay right now for cheap.

Exterior shows a lights scuff from a week in my bag unprotected. Webcam has no scuffs, trackpad shines where I scroll and mouse about. Keyboard is showing some shine. Unnerving amount of flex from hinge with power cable in it. But no cracks, or issues beyond that. Very durable and took a lot more abuse than my Fujitsu in the same time frame. Ordered this cover to avoid any exterior scuffs.

Me too,as rahul, are not so convinced to pull the trigger on the actual TZ. Yeah, great design and everything but just doesn't go down the 945 chipset. And, especially for this price.

armadilo, by the time they put the 965 inside the TZ, there will be a Q35/E35/X35/X45 available on some notebooks :). The chipset has no effect on those machines.

The difference between 915 and 945 (jump) has been ~1-2% in performance due to the chipset and the same CPU in the SZs

Some 'lower' chipsets are even better than their high end counterparts. For example you can overclock higher and get a more stable rig with a 965 compared to the 975 on a desktop side.

Either buy it and enjoy it or you will be in this loop forever.

Is really a great price for a TZ. What specs does it have, and from where did you purchase it? I didn't catch in the previous post.
Why you're already thinking of selling it man? Just enjoy it!
I'm thinking of taking a TX now and selling it in a year for a TZ.

    That's true [SONY]. :)

My thinking is: I can't afford to purchase a new TZ every year, so when I will take one, it must last much more than that. Hopefully, next year they will put the blue-ray and X3100 graphics, Penryn, and then I will pull the trigger for good.
So for now I want to spend few bucks on a used TX -with XP- knowing that after I will just give it away as a gift.

    -Touge
If I knew it before...From where did you took it?

you will be better off getting a 2k TZ now, enjoying it for a couple of years than dishing out 1300$ for a TX now and having to sell your it in a year, while hoping for a 2K blurey, x3100 whatever such TZ is released. Your hopes are unrealistic, at least for the Blu-ray.

I got my frist SW-5582 18 months ago for 800$, the current UJ-225/UJ220 run for about a grand. Imagine how much will be the 9.5mm within a year. My guess, still out of your price range...
