    Hello

I own a Vaio Fz11S, the one with the dedicated GForce 8400m GPU, which is the main reason beyond its constantly running fan.

I bought the FZ in a bit of a rush when my old laptop died and I quickly needed a replacement to finish my paper. College is soon over, however, and I'm considering replacing the FZ with a more lightweight laptop. I really like what I've seen of the Vaio TZ so far, but I'm concerned that I might be disappointed again if the fan turns out to be another howler.

My question therefore: Would someone please compare the two Vaios in terms of fan noise? And please: post only in case you have a FZ with the GforceGPU, it really doesn't make sense otherwise.

    Thank you

the tz will completely eliminate your fan nemisis forever. thats IF you get the tz190 with an ssdrive cuz there aint no fan in it. it all really comes down to money. cuz everyone knows money makes the world go round. i don't have the Fz or the Tz. but i feel i can comment on behalf of the Tz because i have one on delivery and i did insane research into the tz190 model and everything says it quieter then a dead bird. anything less than a tz190 in the tz series will have a fan.

That's not correct. The SSD-based TZs do have a fan, but it rarely comes on because solid-state drives generate much less heat than hard-drive-only models. In the SSD models the fan very rarely comes on (mainly during virus scans, etc.), so it's the quietest computer I have ever used.

Of course, since the base models have a 1.8-inch, 4200rpm hard disks, which are way too slow to handle Vista so downgrade to XP, you will hear more fan noise in those versions.

Ok thanks for the answers so far. I did't really wanna go for an SSD at the moment, I just need more disk space I think...

I don't really mind how often or how long the fan blows, as long as it is MUCH quieter than the one the FZ has... but apparently that is not the case as you say with the HDD models...

then get the tz150 base model. buy an expresscard 16gb SSDrive and use that as a bootup.
