Everytime I boot up my TZ, just before the "VAIO" logo comes up, my DVD drive makes some noise as if it is trying to read a disc. This only lasts a second, but is quite audible.
Is it just me? or do any other TZ owners have this as well?
I do not think i heard this noise until recently, and I don't know what I did to make this occur. I installed WinXP on it recently, but I don't think that is what's causing the problem.

Happens to me on my G2S. I believe its searching for a boot disc. It has happened on all my laptops.

Mine does that as well. If you want it to stop, press the F2 key during bootup and take the DVD drive out of your boot order; your system is checking for a bootable device, and by default the hard drive is the last it checks. If you make the hard drive first, you'll boot without checking for a floppy, USB drive, CD/DVD, and everything else.

I have excluded all devices from the boot sequence in bios except the internal hard drive, but still, as soon as I press the power button and before anything else happens, I still hear the optical drive make the noise, "doot doot........doot doot"
any idea? -
It could be written into the TZ bios to do that, whether it is active or not. It may be some kinda of anti-drive failure system to diagnose the problem early? Not sure, guessing...

My guess would be that the noise is caused by the DVD drive being turned on at boot-up, regardless of whether it is actually going to be used. Doesn't bother me but I do get that same little sound.
