I am getting a good deal on a TT290YBB 4gb 128GB SSD (64x2) Windows Ultimate 64Bit.
I will give my TZ to my wife as hers ASUS is going down the drain.
Could anyone let me know what brand SSD this model comes with>> ?? SAMSUNG ??
tHANKS
-
Sony use Samsung 1.8 uSata drives. As to what version those drives are if no one has them you will need to wait to you get it to find out.
Oh and congrats on your purchase. -
Anyway thanks.I will wait till it gets in>>>
Reading another thread u posted batt life on your TT goes up to 10 hrs > such thing i cannot get on my TZ (top most 6hrs (reg. batt)).
Have u got numbers for watching a Bluray Movie ??
Also the disassembly manual for the TT is that one in JAPANESE (I got the link) or is there something else that I am not aware of >> -
I don't have any figures for the BD drive. I usually watch movies plugged in unless i am travelling.
The TT should get better battery life than the TZ.
The processor is 45nm as opposed to the 65nm processors that were in the TZ.
The GS45 also has a low power mode between 7-8w(page 97) so matching that of the GMS945 chipset in the TZ.
The TT standard battery is rated at 59w and i believe that the TZ's standard battery is about the same.
Battery life was achieved in W7 by:
Silent mode
Auto brightness of
Power saver
BD powered of
dimmed display @30%
wireless power settings set as medium
Intel GMA settings set to max power saver settings although i'm not sure if this actually improved my battery life as it gave as good readings before i started using it but i use it anyway.
BT and WWAN of
WIFI on
..........
You have a RAID drive so you might possibly get slightly less battery life.
That seems to be the only free guide there is. -
Well the TZ batt is 68W+10./. which is a big diff > from TT also the processor <TT=45/TZ=65)
Besides my batt wear is already 1.5 ./. after 5 month of use.I don't know if the batt software
checker I am using has any flaws or not but 6 hrs is excellent.
By silent mode u mean volume off >> ??
I will go for W7 and do a clean install.Although on RAID i imagine the diff isn't gonna be that much.
Of all laptops I have had the usage of a cd/dvd(now blu-ray) player has been minimal.Any software I do need download it.
Thanks for the info so far. -
TZ battery according to Sony is 62whr.

Then again i don't have one with me.
The silent mode is in the vaio control centre.
The BD will come with Intervideo BD player. You might though want to run the latest update for the BD player on the Sony website.
You cannot download the BD from the Sony website if you do a clean install.
Edited to add:
I also surf with FF, flash blocker and no script. I've not tried it in IE. -
Great hint .tx
"The BD will come with Intervideo BD player. You might though want to run the latest update for the BD player on the Sony website.

Ah.Do you have any problems with the TT touchpad (irresponsive)
-
No
.........
Btw, the silent mode seems to throttle the CPU which is good as when i started to use it my max battery life jumped up by about 3hrs if i can remember rightly. I've got a single Samsung very power conservative uSata 128GB SSD and that might help out a little.
-
This is my TZ.
**I have been getting different readings>>
Ex; Windows Mobility shows 7:01 hrs //\
The software http://osirisdevelopment.com/BatteryBar/index.html shows 5:50Hrs
Is there a more reliable source to check >>
As already mentioned my batt wear is already 1.5./.
The only reason I asked about the touchpad was that when I was deciding to buy an 11" ultraportable i decided to go with SONY(either the TT or TZ) however reading a long thread on NBR http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=376925&highlight=vaio+tt+touchpad I kinda got frustrated about it and went with the TZ.
I just hope mine doesn't come with that irritating issue.>> fingers crossed -
It seems the complaints about the touchpad has tailed off.
I haven't read anything good about battery bar. I think Windows is reliable enough.
I see that you have AERO of there as well.
If you haven't done this on your TZ you could try putting your intel GMA drivers into max power savings. -
Yeah i am gonna get rid of it >>fluctuates too much >>
No I got WINDOWS CLASSIC
Checking GMA power setting. -
Looks like my TT290 SSD is >
128x1 and not 64x2* RAID
The guy perhaps gave the wrong info//
That's what I found digging thru GOOGLE on SONY'S TT290 CTO -
L@@K what I got after>>
View attachment 47903
It just jumped from 7:01hrs >>> 9.35hrs
-
I am getting mine from someone that bought it and didn't like it
Yes I browsed CCLUB'S site on 03/29 and they had 5 in stock although refurbished for $1.600.Kinda of strange 5 TT'S go in 2 days(also they had a 130 and it's gone).Just as a curiosity I emailed them and was
told that there is no ETA for new arrival and that this is a popular item
Interesting enough a did some GOOGLING and I found a CHINA site selling brand new TT298YBB for the
bargain of $1.200.I emailed tham just as a curiosity (I know it is a SCAM) and asked a few questions.
The person told me they only accept WESTERN UNION / DEPOSIT BANK ACCOUNT
Not credit card
or PAY-PAL(anyway I think that PAY-PAL is only secure 4 EBAY)
There isn't many TT around specially the 290 (I need WWAN)
Another option is to check SONY outlet >> they have a few 130/190 available(refurbished as well) and I think a couple of 290. -
THANKS for the info. Yes there are always some Chinese/Indonesian/... sites that don't take CCs and are most likely a total scam.
CCLUB said that they sold all of the remaining TTs to one buyer and apologized for not being able to deliver on the order - not sure the story is true and of course it does not help me.
I'll keep looking... -
Are u looking for any specific model ??
