Has anybody tried installing Windows 8 RTM on the Sony VAIO T series notebooks? I've tried installing it on the Sony VAIO TXN27N and I'm having all kinds of problems.

    • The Desktop Window Manager is experiencing heavy resource contention.
    • Windows 8 crashes on shudown
    • MsMpEng.exe
    • General Windows 8 sluggishness/unresponsive

I figured out the issue with "The Desktop Window Manager is experiencing heavy resource contention" error. I simply had to install the Intel chipset drivers.

Windows 8 crashing on shutdown was resolved by installing newer drivers. I use to use the Sony VAIO TXN Windows Vista drivers, but found out that the Sony VAIO TT Windows 7 drivers work and Windows 8 likes them better.

Windows Defender is installed by default and wreaks havoc on the Sony VAIO TXN. So I turned that off.

After all that, the Sony VAIO TXN with Windows 8 is still unresponsive and generally sluggish. When it runs it runs pretty well, but then it'll slow down and becomes incredible frustrating to use. The TXN has the Core 2 Solo 1.33 GHz processor and is roughly comparable to the earlier generation of netbooks, so I thought Windows 8 should run generally well. Maybe I just need an SSD?
