Try eBay or something like that. I think I saw there some Vaio FW keyboards :)

I'm assuming they'll work with any Vaio FW.

i've been looking around for a white keyboard replacement because i think it looks better on the fw. i posted those ebay links up in another thread, and some guy who's a genuine sony OEM parts seller says it's not the real thing and it's a copy made in china.. but i checked his website and he's selling it for 100 bucks. i don't know how he knows it's fake though, since these say they are genuine. also, i can't really understand how even a sony keyboard could reasonably cost 100 dollars for replacement.

BTW I was told by a friend that Sony informed her that, while the FW keyboards may technically be the same for the FW models, in reality they are wired into the system in a more complex fashion in the FW3 series (don't know about the FW4). Just a heads up on that.

And purchasing the part from Sony would cost how much?

hmmm. thanks for the heads up, but i got a fw465j anyway. don't they just all connect via a single ribbon?

i haven't seen sony sell it directly online, only parts retailers. and keyboards (i've only seen them selling black ones) go from about $100-$150, which is, i think, far too much for just a keyboard... haha. maybe i'm stingy.

Interesting that you should say that a keyboard replacement shouldn't be problematic. My friend was wondering just how reliable the information was that she was receiving from that Sony tech.

Why not call Sony or email directly to [email protected] to ask about prices, availability, etc.? It wouldn't be the first time that a reseller upped the price for an original part....

you can look up videos on replacing keyboards, i haven't personally opened up my FW yet but from experience to replace a keyboard all you need to do is pop up the top plate above the keyboard by unscrewing something on the bottom, and then lifting the keyboard and releasing a single ribbon. seems to have worked with all laptops i've seen... who knows though, maybe the FW3xx series is indeed more complicated.

thanks, i will contact them. good call about the pricing :)

I'm not a reseller but a VAIO authorized servicer. This part is priced the same as Sony (Sony retail has no stock, but as a servicer I have access to stock). The major difference between a genuine OEM vaio part and the grey market is the quality...the chinese version is garbage the key characters wear off and the keys pop-off...installing such a product would also void any warranty remaining on your product...just trying to help...cheers!
