    I am planning to buy VGN-N250 E/W. (~ $900)

I love the way it looks but it uses a Core DUO rather than Core 2 Duo. I will be using it only for casual home uses like browsing, chatting and light-end stuff like that. For heavy-end I have a good configuration desktop.

Do you guys think core duo is enough for my purpose ? Does anyone know if I can upgrade Core-Duo in that model to Core 2 Duo ?

Also anyone using this notebook...how is it overall in performance ?

You could probably upgrade to Core 2 Duo, but you would most likely need a BIOS update. However, you will be more than fine with a the Core Duo processor you have at the moment. If you upgrade, you will notice no speed difference, because the tasks you have mentioned, are not processor intensive. Upgrading will also void the warranty on the notebook.

    Thanks for the reply.

If I am going to be using Vista on this machine...is 1GB ram sufficient or should I upgrade it to 2 GB ?

My wife also liked the way the white N looks, so she got one. Now she struggles with those stupid little designer flaws like 2 USB ports on the right interfering with the mouse working space, no BT so a 3rd party BT dongle is protruding all the time there, there's just that expresscard34 (no other slots!) which you cant use for anything meaningful since SD card reader is in the front, display with nice colors but with a poor viewing angle etc...
And it's heavy! I suggest to get any cheap SZ instead even you will do basic surfing at home

WitchKing, with the uses you use your laptop for, you won't notice a bit of difference with Core 2 Duo, I'd just stick with your current processor, its more than enough for your needs. :)

for your needs, i'd say upgrade the ram (cheaper than the processor) instead which you will notice a speed difference without voiding the warranty.
