iirc, it also had a switchable GPU, which makes the faulty nVidia part last artifically longer than it should.

Reality is, the SZ series cost a pretty penny back then, Sony probably thinks the consumers which can afford that, can eat the cost of a defective laptop and spring for a new one. Hopefully, by spewing nVidia's name out there frequently, people will blame nVidia, instead of Sony for the failure (and therefore, not try to really press the bill against Sony).

Asus has some multi-gpu systems that aren't bad.
They aren't a Z or it's replacement, but at half the cost they are a nice system. They are about the only real alternative.

As for Apple, I'm a big girl who can handle two touchpad buttons, I'm not a child. Besides, their policies aren't always much better (replace the battery? why would you ever need to do that?).

Actually Apple has been impressed me so much these past couple of years I'm thinking about dropping my Thinkpads and just run the MBP's in bootcamp.

Everything I go to the Apple store for my sisters MBP, they replace or fix everything no questions asked. I once went in because her charger was acting up and they gave me a brand new retail box without even checking my serial. I would understand if this was the exception but I seem to have good experiences with their "Genius Bar" no matter what state I'm in (Seattle, Texas, California, Chicago).

Just my 2 cents, not trying to come off as a fan boy or anything :) Also a side note, I still use thinkpads (t420s and the x1) but I buy Macbook Pro's for my younger sister and brother.

I admit, they look great, and have great support... So long as your model is supported at least.

Beyond that though, you pay a lot for it, and that stupid touch pad just drives me insane and the fact that they are so vehemently against the user being able to do anything is another issue for me.

Don't even get me started on Macs in a business setting.
