Hiya, had to reinstall XP on my vaio here and am now trying to get all my vaio goodness going again. Turns out my machine isn't available from the esupport site..?
My machine is a VGN-TX1XP (bought in the UK), and model PCG-4F1M. I've tried to download drivers for similar machines but no luck. The most annoying thing is my machine was using a really low brightness level and can't adjust it anymore. Function keys aren't working either.
Any help regarding these issues would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Perhaps you went to USA eSupport. If you check at Europe, you can find your model & all drivers. Here's the link http://support.vaio.sony.co.uk/down...voe_en_GB_cons&category=0&serie=VGN-TX&m=2042

Oh thanks, you're right. Still getting a lot of problems installing these though, the device manager is coughing up a lot of questionmarks and no sound or function keys, but will keep at it.
If there's anything obvious I'm missing regarding the brightness settings it'd be great to hear.
Big thanks for your help Wyshniukas, should've thought about that one maybe. -
Don't remember exactly which one, but it should be from Sony's ones: Sony Settings Utility Series or Sony Utilities DLL or Sony Notebook Control Device Driver. Download the "Preinstalled Drivers" pack & install them all.
Sound I resolved downloaded the newest Realtek HD Audio Codecs, because the Sony's one didn't work. Then Realtek setup is installing, it also install Microsoft fix or *.inf file, whick let's to finish the setup.
Haven't you tried just to use the hidden recovery partition for Windows reinstall? -
Got audio to work fine now, just the LCD brightness that's causing trouble. It just won't show anything apart from really dark. I have tried installing everything apart from the obvious software packs I don't want (click to Dvd etc), and including those you mentioned. I can see the power options with the LCD settings but these don't make any difference even if I set it all to the highest level on current power scheme. Same level as before the crash...
My machine started to complain about the battery saying it's not fitted properly and asks me to hibernate and plug it in properly so I had to disable ISBMgr.exe. Maybe this is part of the problem, but seems to be no solution to this apart from switching ISBMgr.exe off judging from other forums.
My machine couldn't even start up in safe mode so had to reformat, not the best of users so can't say I'm too familiar with the hidden recovery partition.. erm. Kind of felt a full reinstall was in order anyway, my machine runs a lot faster now but what you suggest there could've been a valid option. Need to get my head around these things more..
Big thanks for all the help! -
Ok, found the alt+f10 option. Have to run away here so will look into that. I read on some forum that if no startup option works it's best to just reinstall from scratch hence me doing so.
Just don't want to sound like I just went in head first and asking questions later.
I'll see if it's too late to use this recovery option now later on, my machine works fine apart from the LCD display and ISBMgr.exe being screwy. Which is indeed annoying as the screen is set to ultra-low brightness.. -
VAIO Event Service - this should help to resolve FN buttons problem.
What about the MS card icon? The SD slot is showing nice one, but MS not, like it can't detect or error. -
Had to reinstall from the Vaio recovery partition (alt+f10), everything works fine now so I'm happy. Thanks for the help again!
