Hello Vaio community,
2 days ago my VAIO VPCSE1C5E (2012, Windows 7) just would not switch on in the morning.
I left it plugged in over night, before I went to bed it was working 100%.
The battery was in a bad shape, so I had the message to consider replacement since 2 weeks.
The 500G harddrive was on its upper limit as I run modelling programs like AutoCAD and matlab.
Last thing I did before it died was installing ARDUINO :-/
The symptoms:
- When I hit the start button after taking out (and putting back in) the battery I hear the normal acceleration sound (I guess thats the CD drive) it would make when I switch it on, but only for half a second or so.
- Than I realized that the harddrive is spinning after hitting the on/ off button
- When plugged in, the indicator light tells me its charging (I replaced the battery with a new one)
- The orange/ green start light is not turning on at all
- Blackscreen, nothing happens, no signs at all
- Independent on how long I press the on/ off button, the harddrive only stops when I take out the battery
- The harddrive only starts when I hit the on/off button.
Any ideas what this can be?
Or any idea how I can test the single parts to find the failure?
Buying a new one is not really an option as I love this thing to much and just bought a SSD and new battery which I intended to put in next week....![]()
I opened it (happy to put pics if anyone is interested) but I can't see any burned/ broken parts...
Thanks and greetings,
Jacob

Last Software-type resort could be Resetting the BIOS by temporarily removing it’s battery, might be something you wanna try.
Have you even tried running it without the battery installed? -
Hey, thanks for the answer!
I tried running it without battery or pressing on button for 60 sec to completely decharge it, not working.
I tried running it without RAM ( I guess there is another one on the motherboard). I tested the fan with en ext. 5 V supply and its running. I can't see any damage.
When I start it (pressing the on/off button) without battery I can hear the CD drive trying to start and the harddrive is running. Both is powered via the motherboard. However nothing happening on the screen and the on/off light is also dead. The charging indicator light works so I guess its not the card/ energy board.
Does it make sense to reset the BIOS and what is the result of it?
Any other ideas how I could check what part it is?
How can I check if it is the motherboard - it is not supplied directly with energy?
Thanks, Jacob

@jacobkey maybe try the "old" sony won't boot trick. It's worth a try. Worked on my vgn-SR
1. remove battery.
2. unplug AC adapter from laptop.
3. hold down power button for 30+ seconds.
4. install battery and plug in ac adapter.
5. boot.
