iphonekid, are you using the Windows that came with the laptop, or have you done a clean install? Anyway, your post seems to have came up blank due to software issues, so please do fill us in about what has happened.

Here is what I was trying to insert, and to answer your question, I am using Windows that came with the system, and I use the recovery on the machine to do full clean install sort of speak from there.
But it won't shut down :(
    Hi All,
I have tried to search my problem, but no solution working, and my laptop is out of warranty.

The laptop runs great, no problem when it's running.
Only thing is when I shut it down, it get stuck on Shutdown screen.

Only way to shut it down is FORCE SHUTDOWN.

Also the fan keeps reving at high speed, it was not like this like a month ago or so.

I have restore the full system and still it's keep on doing this.

Any idea if it's a hardware issue? If so, where should I start?

I have paid $2700 for this laptop like 2 years ago, so really hope it should atleast last 5 years or so, as my previous sony did.

    Thanks, All

Are you using any temperature/hardware monitoring programs like AIDA/Everest or HWMonitor? These programs seem to break brightness control and don't allow the Sony VPCZ1 to shutdown when I use it on mine. Also, could you check CPU temperatures using CoreTemp and see if it's overheating?

I'm not using any of these programs, let me use CoreTemp to see CPU temp.

    Okay Guys,
This is really amazing journey of fixing my computer... being an engineer I knew it could be really small, but finding this has been a tiring task.

Cleaning the fan's dust by opening this baby fixed the fan's noise, that was the easy task.

The reason the computer didn't shut down was the stupid memory card... when I removed the memory card when I had it opened it was like everything was like it was before.

Then, I put the stupid card back in and problem started again.

At this time I didn't know it was the memory card that was screwing up things.

    LONG STORY SHORT...

It was the stupid memory card, I have restored my PC, did so many things, lost my 2 years old software :(

Now, my Vaio is back baby :)

Which memory card? Do you mean like an SD card?

It has 2 slots, SD and Sony's Memory, I don't know which one was triggering it, I had 16GB in both just so I usually get extra hard drive space :)
