I would like to know what "name" has the Sony Vaio Z1 charging connector, because I would like to buy an extension cord. Buying the connector itself only without cable wold be ok too.

And this the charging port in the Vaio Z13:

If you are only going to extend the cord, you could also:
1. Extend the mains cord of the adapter, by using a power strip or similar. This is the best way.
2. Cut the DC cord and add your extension in between the cut ends. You can use any connector pairs you have handy - just make sure that the polarity stays the same. Even RCA audio connectors are fine for this. Remember - the adapter side cable (the powered side) should be female, as that is safer - the male ones will short circuit if a metal object touches both the center and outer connections at the same time. Avoid using phono type jacks as they momentarily short circuit while the jack is being inserted into the socket.
Note that if you are going to make a longer cord using a new connector and wire, you will need to open the adapter case to make the connections. This is not easy - the adapter case is sealed - not meant to be opened.Paloseco likes this. -
The outer connector is 6 mm diameter on the outside side and 4.4 mm on the inner side, while the plastic tip is even wider at 6.5 mm on the outside. The internal pin is solid and 1.4 mm diameter.
The connector is typically known as 6.5x1.4 on shops selling parts, but really it is 6x1.4 if we only consider the metal parts (some aftermarket power supply manufacturers sell the connector as 6x1.4 so watch out where the reference is taken by each manufacturer).Last edited: Jan 15, 2017 -
I recently replaced my power jack (adaptor side) as the original had shorted out. Not as simple as it sounds. The original has a wax like material poured/injected into the cover to protect the cable from stress. The replacement doesn't. I've had to rework the new one twice already in about three months - the soldered wires keep coming loose.
If your original adaptor jack is fine, PLEASE just cut the cable and put the extension in between.Paloseco likes this.
