Hi, I have the above laptop, it's the i7, 3300m, 8gig and 256gig SDD model.
Any time I've tried to play a game on it that uses 3d I get intermittant stuttering. The game will run as smooth as you like, then at various points it will go down to 1fps.
Sometimes this seems to coincide with sound being played. That was certainly the case in Portal 2.
I've tried reducing the graphics and resolution to the absolute minimum and it still happens. Saying that, most games I've tried are really smooth except for this stuttering.
I've seen various posts about different drivers (Sony lock you in to a specific version of nvidia), disabling the nvidia power saving (Dont know how to do this) and various other related issues, but nothing has directly helped.
Any advice would be most appreciated.

Hey, check your thermal policy in VAIO control center, if it is set to silent, you'll get throttled all the time during gaming. Change it to balanced and try then. Hope this helps.

Oh my goodness, you are a genius. I have faffed around with all sorts of settings and it was there in front of me. Everything runs perfectly now and the fans spin up so we're all good.
+1 happiness to you -
I swear we need to sticky this.
