I have the Z series viao above and the hard disk seems to have failed. The hard disk is not a standard and appears to have a proprietary Sony connection. Does anyone know if I can replace this with anything other than the hugely expensive Sony drive?? I do not have an optical drive on the vaio as it is very thin, the optical drive is part of the docking station. Hope someone has found a solution for this !! :)

Hi. I had to dig really deep to find info about this laptop / ssd.
The short answer is no, you can't replace the SSD, except with the same series.
You didn't mention any of your specs, but if you have the 128GB drive the SSD model number is MZ-RPA1280/0S0.

Luckily there is a thread here about replacement:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/upgrade-ssd-in-vpcz2390x.702265/page-3#post-9201070

It seems there are 3 possible drives:
    128GB MZRPA128HMCD-000S0
    256Gb MZRPA256HMDR-000S0
    512Gb MZRPA512HMFU-000S0

I'm not sure where to find one. Maybe Ebay.

Also here is our official Vaio Z2 owners thread to look through:
