    Hey,

Does anyone know where I can purchase the original Vaio Z in the UK? I check eBay occasionally, but there are very infrequently any on there, the models available are not new, or they have the slower i5 processor +/or do not have the full HD screen. There is also the added intrinsic worry of purchasing the notebook from eBay. I have also checked the Sony UK website, but have only been able to find clearance (refurbished) models for extortionate amounts of money.

    Regards,
    Clare.

The original vaio Zs are no longer being manufactured, you will have a hard time finding them new. Your best bet is the sony refurbs.

I assume by "original Vaio Z" you mean the VPC-Z1, which is actually the second generation; VGN-Z590 was, I believe, the first gen and haven't been made for over a year.

Don't know about UK market, but around $1,200 seems to be going rate for a lightly used Z1 from a reputable seller. There are two listed on the NBR Marketplace right now. If you buy via PayPal, you get most of the buyer protections you get from eBay, so make sure the seller assures you in writing as to its condition and working order. In case it arrives worse than described, you have recourse. Not a "walk in the woods," but PP will truly back you up and will even charge the Seller's PP acct if you have a credible claim.

Also, seems the "market" price for a new in box Z1 with base specs (there are some on eBay from reputable sellers) is up to around $1,500. That's actually a good deal when you consider they were selling for $1,999 just before the model went out of production (May I think) and, honestly, nothing in the market today can beat it for $1,500. These are "premium" computers in every sense of the word, and when you are ready to sell one, in 1-2 years, you will probably get $800-$1,000 (convert all to Sterling, of course), based on what the prior model VGN sells for.

Patience and constant checking will likely be rewarding. Good luck.

Thank you for the advice. I guess I'll just have to continue to keep my eye out for one!

Do you know anyone here in the U.S., because there are still brand-spankin' new Z13's floating around at retail stores? Here's a place for example:

    VPC-Z1

Maybe, you should call customer service, they may ship to the UK. They have Z135's and Z133's - silver and black.
