Does the latest version of the Vaio Z with the 128 GB SSD have a dual 64 GB RAID still? I'm wondering if the 256 SSD took the RAID config and the 128 is now a single drive.

If the 128 GB SSD is a single drive now, does any know how it performs? I'm trying to weigh getting either the 128 GB SSD or one of the 7200 RPM HDDs.

Lastly, does the latest Z still have issues with the fan spinning up all the time?

I'd be interested in knowing more about this too. Performance wise, is it worth getting the 128GB SSD over any of the 7200rpm spinners?

    Thanks in advance!

Well, my Z90NS (Japan version of the 590) has the RAIDed 128GB (2x64GB). Hands down the fastest laptop I've owned when it comes to I/O. It's in for repair now, and I'm using a Z610Y/B at the moment with the 320GB 7200RPM drive and while it's pretty zippy, when you start doing a lot of I/O it does lag a bit. It's all relative of course, but I would still pick the RAIDed SSDs over traditional HDD.

The TT has the best of both worlds (at least in Japan) - you can get the RAIDed SSDs plus a hard drive for extra storage. I wish they offered an option like that on the Z.

When the Z first came out some of the Japan review sites did benchmarks and the perf was insanely high on the SSD RAID versions.

Real world example: Since my Z90NS is in the shop and I'm using the Z610Y/B, I'm not using it any differently. Right now I'm installing Windows Server 2008 into a guest VM under VMWare Workstation 6.5. With the RAIDed drives, it's fast with no delays. The ISO for Windows is on an external 7200rpm drive. With the Z610Y/B, it's not even close to how fast it is on the Z90NS.

Ive currently got a Z90S with a 320gb 7200rpm drive.....but about to jump to a photofast V2 monster 256gb ssd which is blindingly fast -

    230MB/sec read
    160MB/sec write
    Reliable for: 2.5Million hrs

Ive got a 2.8ghz processor with 4gb ram and blueray.....I think the term will be "goes like stink :)"

Should get it by tuesday and have a youtube vid out wed or thursday :)

Anyone knows the part # of the ssd raid cable inside the Z series?
I see cheap samsung drives on ebay, I'm thinking to upgrade myself.
