    Good evening,

First time poster, long time viewer.

I was just wondering if anyone experienced a battery increase after down-grading their Vaio Z from Vista/Win7 to XP? If so, by how much?

I'm currently holding a Z710dd (canadian vaio) with a standard battery with windows 7 installed. I previously had a netbook that lost a good hour and half from Windows XP to Windows 7. Even after disabling a lot of the windows aero mumbo-jumbo and themes...

I've gone through nearly all the threads here for tips to conserve battery, from undervolting all p-states, disabling themes and aero, and lowering the brightness at a reasonable setting. My last option is Windows XP, if I gain an hour and half, then i'm all up for it. I'll be travelling to japan soon and will need a lot of battery life.

If anyone has any other tips, please by all means post. A high-cap battery is out of the question due to my budget for Japan. Also, if anyone currently lives in Japan and has a Vaio Z, can you recommend me a store in Akihabara for Vaio accessories that are cheap?

Thanks for viewing my long thread.

Use the silent mode in the control panel and power saver. When i was just using power saver and balanced mode with my TT my battery life was around 7hrs. Using the silent mode boosted my battery life considerably.

    Also turn BT of.
You can also disable the built in drive.
Also, install firefox and download flash blocker plus and no script.
You can also disable Aero in this manner if you've not tried this way control panel-->performance and tools--->adjust visual effects-->select adjust for best performance.

I don't know how much battery life you're looking for but you should be able to obtain at least around 6hrs doing all of these steps if you're just surfing.

You lose quite a bit of functionality if you install XP so that is something to keep in mind.

I like to tweak my system for battery life quite a lot. With 7 there's less to tweak than with Vista though. I like to play with disabling processes as well. My battery life is still up to 7 hours with standard battery after more than one year of use.

In a plane (expecting you're flying in economy class), ask for front seats. In that case you'll have higher possibility to have socket for you.

I can't recommend any shop at Akihabara for cheap Vaio accessories. Akihabara is nice if you want some special gadgets or you want to try some new products, but for low price I would always recommend shopping on internet. Kakaku is nice for finding the lowest price in Japan.
