    Hi,

I have a 3 PAYG sim card in at the moment, which sometimes feels quite sluggish.

I don't really understand the limitations of neither the Mobile Broadband capabilities of the Vaio Z, not that of the 3 Network.

Can anyone recommend a faster alternative?

    Thanks!

You need to select a network that offers the best coverage for your area. "Sluggish" performance is the fault of the network, not the notebook.

I have SIM's for O2, T-Mob, Orange & Vodafone so I have been able to compare networks. If you intend to travel a lot, I tend to find Vodafone offer the best coverage & performance for mobile internet.

    Thank you steve.

I wasn't implying that the laptop was sluggish, what I meant was that say '3's best performance depends having the laptop connected to it via 3G (as opposed to GPRS for example), then that would require the internal mobile broadband on the Z to be able to connect at 3G speeds in the first place.

If the Gobi WWAN is capable of connecting via HSDPA and not 3G, then perhaps 3 isn't the best network for me....does that make sense?

I travel a lot, and when I eventually give up on 3 (admittedly, it's usually while i'm on a train) then I tend to tether my Vodafone Blackberry Bold 3G instead, which works better.

When I got my 3 dongle initially, it was because it was the only PAYG mobile broadband deal. But now it seems prices have come down across the board, so it might be time to go to a better network.
