    I would love to have some feedback on the Z13.1 1080x1200 display as compared to MacBook Pro 13 and the recently d/c Hp 14 Envy Radiant display (1600x900). I believe the "radiant display" which was gorgeous had 350 nit brightness with 82% color gamut. If the Z13 1080p display is as good or better than the above it looks like I'll order one or may wait to see what Mac does with the overdue 11" MacBook Air next week. Any personal experience with the above displays including specs would be greatly appreciated. I personally don't mind the super gloss (glare) for the vibrant result. Thanks

    the screen resolution is 1920x1080 on the Z. That's full 1080p (the same amount of pixels as on your 55" TV). The Z has a VERY nice screen, even the 1600x900 is nice. You might not mind the "super gloss" on the MacBook now, but try using the semi-gloss/semi-matte screen on the Z and you'll never want to go back.

    Is there a way to have a Vaio Z serie with Quad core system ? Like the i7 740qm (or something like that)

    No, the Z does not support the quad core processors (and if it did, there would be no switchable graphics feature).

    Yeah the whole point of the Z series is that its powerful when you want it to be and light and portable when you need it to be. Thats why such great expense was put into weight saving with the carbon fibre/aluminum shell and low tdp parts + switchable graphics to get good battery range not to mention cramming multimedia features (1080p screen, mid range gpu) into a computer thats not much bigger than a netbook.

    The quad cores defeat all of that because they are higher tdp parts, have much higher power consumption, do not have integrated graphics for switching and they are much more difficult to cool adequately in a tiny chasis.

    You can't make a quad core truly mobile right now and the number 1 reason for that is that the quads utterly destroy battery life.

    This may seem like a stupid question, but if I were to spring for the 1080p screen on the Z13, what is the next step down for the resolution? I'd like the option to be able to use 1080p for movies, but I know it's going to be a pain for pretty much anything else.

    @GLBL WMR
    The 1080p variants of the VPC-Z come with DPI settings set at 125%, by default (with the factory OS). Of course, if you do a clean install it will start off with 100%, though it ain't hard to change (requires a restart though).

    The 125% DPI will make your desktop look like approx 1600x900, but will use all your 1080p's pixels for playing back things like movies. So if you can dish up the extra moolah for the 1080p (the matt full RGB variants), then I'd say hell yeah.

    Though there are some people who say the 1080p screens are inferior to the quality found on the 1600x900. Try dropping in by a store an comparing the two side by side.

    There's no need to restart if you change DPI setting, logging off and back on again will do the trick ;)

    The good things I hear about the Vaio Z screen is one of the big reasons I'm considering this notebook. I really hope its great because I'm way too picky and I've had quite a disappointing experience with my current laptop's screen.

    I am picky too, and I am still constantly amazed by the Z's screen. It has better colors, brighter whites and blacker blacks than even my 37" 1080p HDTV. And even the 900p screen is super-crisp. I would say the one weak point of the screen is the vertical viewing angle which is fairly narrow (though probably still much better than average), and a small amount of backlight bleed from the top and bottom against dark backgrounds (not noticeable when viewed head-on).

    Viewing angle is atrocious but then it is on 99% of notebooks.
