Hey fella Z owners, not sure if you guys have experienced this but it seems that when I plug in my external LCD through VGA and watch a video, CoreTemp is reporting 83C+ temps. Is this normal?

Achusaysblessyou eecs geek ftw :D
if you're using your GPU then yes htat's normal. Is it 1080p video etc? I get 90C+ temps while gaming to an ext monitor through HDMI

I don't think you should worry too much if it is not over 85C. I am over-clocking it to Core:600MHz, Shader:1320MHz, Memory:800MHz with EVEGA Precision. I am getting around 79C-85C when playing SC2 in medium setting with around 40-60 FPS. Its perfectly stable and haven't crashed on me yet.
Also make sure you are on Performance Mode in your Thermal Control Strategy under Power Options in VAIO Control Center. -
I can get it up to 91ish overclocking also. Don't worry about 85 it isn't too hot. At least better than my MacBook Pro that would hit 101 on flash videos.

that's very reassuring, thanks everyone. So far I am enjoying the Vaio very much, it is truly a spectacular notebook!
