    Hi
I am looking at buying the Z690/790 with the SSD RAID configuration and was looking for more information on the size and interfaces of the SSDs used in RAID configuration.

    a. Are they 2.5" inch drives or 1.8" inch drives?
    b. Do they have SATA interface or some other interface?

    Appreciate the help!!!

by the way, the speed of Z790 raid 0 ssd is 3 times faster than the speed of Z690 raid ssd.

Really? What's the difference? And is that true for all RAID configurations? Specifically, the base 2x64GB?

i'm not sure, but i think it is the new model of Samsung SSD which makes the difference.

Z790 raid 0 can do 350MB/s read and 250MB/s write, while the Z690 raid 0 is ugly slow.

There is a world of difference between SSDs that use Samsung, Intel, JMicron, or Indilinx controllers -- and the marketing speeds they're capable of almost always only represent sequential-read/write speeds, whereas random-read/write are usually significantly slower (but are more indicative of real-world speeds).

Samsung and Intel are good; the current JMicron and 2xJMicron SSDs are bad (but JMicron is releasing a new controller soon); Indilinx is good but new and unproven (longterm-wise). If someone has access to one of the new Z790/SSD units, you could take a look at the device manager and possibly find out which it is, or just take a peek inside. Otherwise there's no surefire way of knowing which controller Sony has gone with.

The Intel SSDs did outperform on 4k random access for a while.

However, now on Z790 it is not possible to defeat the Samsung raid 0 with any current technology. Theoretically 2 x Intel X18-M can achieve about 500MB/s read and 140MB/s write, however I don't think it is possible to achieve that with ICH9M.

so i have a question here since i'm buying a laptop from taiwan. the models in taiwan are Z48 and Z46. would the Z48 be better than the Z46 when we're talking about raid? Is the Z48 like the Z790 and the Z46 like the Z690?

Can you point to some website/article which has benchmarked to new Z790 in RAID config? Or this is from your personal benchmarks?

sniper_sung - thanks for posting the link. Benchmarks look awesome. Wonder how will the Samsung / Intel SSDs compare to the newly released Photofast 1.8" SSDs?
