Any of you guys with a successful 8GB RAM upgrade?

If so please state BIOS version and which generation Z are you sporting?

    I have a 1st Gen Z with Win7 and BIOS R2170M3; is that upgradable to 8GB?

Theoretically it should be OK to support 8GB with R2170M3. (It was confirmed that both Z1 and Z2 could support 8GB with all versions of BIOS R2???M3 that did not enable VT option officially.) If not, don't panic, use R4043M3 instead. (At least Z3 supports 8GB with R4043M3.)

I have a first gen Z too (Z11) using 2170M3. I also believe you can use 4043M3 instead, but I'm not clear on the differences.

Regarding 8GB, can you just buy any 2x 4GB physically compatible (i.e. 204-pin SODIMM DDR3 PC3-10600) ram and drop it in?

At least Z3 cannot support 8GB with R3072M3 and R3074M3. It is not yet known whether Sony will be nasty enough to disable 8GB support in Z1 and Z2 with the latest BIOS.
