    Hi all --

Been having some problems recently with my Vaio Z that I've had for a few months now.

One - randomly when booting it will not get all the way through booting vista. It gets stuck on a black screen and I am able to move my mouse pointer; but must hold down the power button to reboot - I've done some googling on the symptoms but they seem to be wide ranging in terms of fixes - does anyone have any experience fixing this on a Vaio Z? After a hard restart it always works - have not had two consecutive boot ups of this yet.

I have also had problems when booting into Vista - the screen will be extremely dim even when on maximum brightness. To fix this I need to go into the nVidia control panel and click on the brightness control. I do not even move the slider - just click on it; and the brightness is restored to normal - any idea?

    I appreciate your help!

Use your Z warranty and get it repaired. You'll be without your laptop for probably 2 weeks, but if its a hardware issue, they'll replace it.

Call Sony, and get a repair order started.
