I'm using my Vaio Z running XP (VGZ-Z27GN 2.53GHz w/BluRay) to do a lot of video editing work. Among the applications I use, I edit with TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress that takes advantage of the GeForce 9300M GS on the Vaio Z by using Nvidia's CUDA Technology for faster renders.

However, all application that can take advantage of CUDA always warn me that I do not have a compatible CUDA product. I confirmed with Nvidia that for sure the GeForce 9300M GS supports it:
    http://www.nvidia.com/object/product_geforce_9300m_gs_us.html

I tried both Sony official Nvidia drivers for the Z (which include the CUDA.dll files) and also the latest Official Nvidia Drivers with CUDA support (from laptopvideo2go w/ modified installation.inf)
    www.nvidia.com/object/cuda_get.html

No luck with any drivers. All works great as far as the display driver goes but CUDA support is always unavailable on any apps that can use it.

Is there a workaround on this or a patch required from Sony to enable CUDA on the Z?

Thanks in advance for any insight on this.

Have you tried running the folding@home gpu client? If that does work, it means that the software you are not compatible with the particular gpu in your laptop in which case it's not really Sony's fault.

I just tried the folding@home gpu client and it runs on my Z under Windows Server 2008 R2 x64, with official Sony Win7 x64 drivers installed.

Did you upgrade to the latest Bios and graphic driver? After the upgrade, you should have CUDA support. The only limitation is that you cannot get double precision floating support.

and installed it, but my forceware version is 174.49 :(
I installed toolkit and SDK too, but when I run bandwidthTest.exe in cmd, this error happend:
    "Running on ......

    Quick Mode
Host to Device Bandwidth for Pageable memory
cudaSafeCall() Runtime API error in file (d:/bld_sdk10.pl/devtools/SDK10/CUDA_2.3/SDK10/Compute/C/src/bandwidthTest/bandwidthTest.cu), line 643 : no CUDA-capable device is available."

Well first of all, I don't know about Vista. There were drivers from Nautis with support of CUDA, but it's some time ago already. I'm on Win7Pro x64 right now with official drivers from Sony - 187.35. These drivers support CUDA and it works well.

The problem is, that it doesn't support programs which use the latest CUDA 2.x SDK (e.g. CoreAVC 2.0, version 1.9.5 works well). For CUDA 2.0 version you would need Nvidia drivers 19x.xx, but there are no such drivers for our Z with hybrid functionality :(

That really sucks.. I paid a f****** lot of money for the Z(5) and think I have the f****** right to get the up-to-date drivers. It's the same with PhysX doesn't work too.

Physix support is in the hardware. Like I said in another thread, physix requires at least 16 shader cores, where the 9300m GS only has 8. Now CUDA on the other hand... Has anyone with a Z tried the Modded NVIDIA drivers? On every Z support page I see listed it's only the NVIDIA graphics drivers listed. The Intel GMA driver wouldn't be stuffed inside an NVIDIA installer would it?

I got PhysX working with some Sorg or Nautis drivers. It helped me running Mirror's Edge...

All working Nautis drivers are older than the one from Sony. On the other hand they do support CUDA and PhysX :) The only way is to wait if Nautis will be so magnificent, that he'll make another set with 19x.xx Nvidia drivers :)
