Hello, I specifically created this account to ask this, so I dearly hope for some help.
I am on the fence about getting either the Surface Pro 4 or the Vaio Z Canvas. Since its price drop it got pushed into my range and really looks like one hell of a product, with the much better processor and other hardware cramped into that small case. Still, I've read about a few things that stop me from immediately going for the buy, but first to me.
I am an engineer, doing my PhD which leads to some traveling, meetings, CAD work, a whole lot of writing, and all that sort of things. I enjoy to be mobile with my computer which got me to appreciate the SP4 for its low weight and strong power compared to similar sized units. Now, the VZC offers a similar size but with greater weight which makes me worry about the transport-ability. Is it easy to carry around? Then the kickstand is of course on its own set up to be on a flat surface but could be modified for lapability, but how about the keyboard? Is it feasible to work with it from your lab and on the go?
Additionally, I heard that the screen / pen makes this annoying clicking sound when you place the pen on the screen or even touch it. With meetings in mind nothing would be worse than being that one guy who somehow manages to enrich the environment with such magnificent sounds. Is it truly as bad as I fear?

    Many Thanks in advance.

These were posted in the Surface book thread. Gives a little bit more insight.

What did the Canvas Z price drop to and where? I went in to buy one at the MS store a few weeks ago when they had the 8gb/256gb for $999 but they were sold out of it... had the 16gb for $1199... I was about to go for it and the guy started upselling me on their $199 package so I said id think bout it and come back tomorrow. The next day the price went back up over 2k. so my search went on. lol.

I stumbled upon it on amazon, I think about 1500$ for the 512 gb version. The low price made me consider it over the SP4. If it just weren't for the higher weight and the much worse return policy. The latter kept me from it and now I either wait or get the the lighter alternative.

I played with one extensively at the Microsoft store when they had the 16gb/512gb for $1199. kick myself for not getting it really at times. Here is my 2 cents.

Its definitely heavier than an SP3/4 and its thicker. In all of my use it was cool and silent / near silent... even running benchmarks. It has 2 heat pipes and 3 fans and the fans are noise canceling to silence once another. It works surprisingly well.

I like the 'kick stand' at least as well if not better than the Surface line. They keyboard is just adequate although i like it being included and covering the screen... and that its RF so you don't have to have it connected or in front of the Vaio to use it.

The screen is great and ok at the same time... Its color is definitely more accurate than any PC ive ever worked with. Very nice, you could always see details that lesser displays would blur together with the same color... its not super bright though... under 300 nits (I think its speced at 250 nits)... it looks fantastic in a normal to dimly lit room but in the bright light of the MS store right next to a 420 nit surface pro 4... it looked dim. I carried into their rear area out of the brightest of their light and it was a completely different machine. Kinda like viewing inside vs outside.

Performance wise its pretty much unmatched in that form factor.

Its still in my top 5. short list for my next computer... although I wish they would update it with a 6700hq. Although honestly thats what would probably drive the existing models price down to where MS had it on sale.
