    Hello all,

I bought a Z12 with the 1080p screen in April, last week i turned the laptop on and these black marks in the LCD appear and i didnt drop or do anything like this, i look after my computers. I sent it to Sony and they say the repair will cost £400 ($630). Is this cost normal? the warrenty is covered by Sony for 2 years and i bought it directly from them. The Sony representative said i must of dropped it.. but i didnt, i use the Laptop on my desk and im the only one who uses it and i have never done any damage to it.

Fight it, I mean if you really dropped your Z and affected the screen, you'd probably have 2 pieces... Ask them what is wrong with the screen. That thing's fairly thin and i dont think it'll survive a fall on the screen...

Fight it - unless they have proof that you dropped it they have to fix it. It's disgusting that Sony has a reputation of not standing behind their high priced and "high end" products and just blaming it on the customer.

Why does it cost $630 to replace a 13" LCD when I can buy an entire 40" LED-LCD for the same price?

Are they little branching looking marks at the sides/top/bottom of the screen?

Also, have they been there for a few days or did it just happen?

If it's new it might go away.

Sony NA right? Monkeys. They will claim that anything wrong is the result of physical damage. Take it to the Sony in Japan or China. They are true professionals and will do right by you.

Not pointing the finger at you, but you don't have a cat by any chance do you? Those things are evil and I swear they know how to break stuff on purpose. A cat sitting on your laptop lid might do it...who knows.

I'd fight it. They should repair it.

Woot, you guys got back into the empire? :D

Honestly, look in the forum, there is another guy with those issues, lcd dying from slowly growing black pixel areas/lines in the middle of the screen.

This is the kind of crap that's going to cost Sony my purchase.

Get your stuff together, seriously Sony. You can't sell at $3K item and then dole out terrible support. If you do, people who own tech review websites like myself are going to do our best to make it publicly known.

FWIW, my Z11 is in for service to have its LCD replaced (Seattle, USA), and they took it in for warranty no questions asked.

The downside is the part is backordered, and they've had it more than 3 weeks now...

    Miller,

Did you receive your Z back yet? Sony SD had my various since the end of November and the part is still backordered! I'd prefer they just replace the notebook completely because this is ridiculous.

Sony USA has been awesome for me. They've replaced the screen twice on mine w/o any questions asked for pressure marks/darkend screen areas. Honestly, both were my fault... too many stupid medical school text books. They even upgraded my 1st gen Vaio Z (VGN-Z690) to the current gen (VPC-Z135) free of charge after they couldn't an irresponsive trackpad. Couldn't be happier... admittedly it did take FOREVER, but that was likely due to the holiday season. So now I have a huge upgrade for free; I went from a cord 2 duo w/320GB HDD to i5 w/256GB SSD, unfortunately I lost my mobile WAN option and my carbon fiber option on the swamp, but I didn't feel like arguing and waiting for a suitable replacement to come in stock.
