I have a Dell 2007 FPW hooked up via DVI with a DVI to HDMI adapter. The VAIO sees the monitor, allows me to do the extend screen / duplicate but no picture shows up on the monitor. In the Nvidia Cpannel is even says the name of the monitor and lists it as a plugged in monitor. If I unplug the connector from the PC the monitor recognizes that its been unplugged from the display source, but for whatever reason there's no picture. I take the exact same connector that was in the Z and plug it into my Alienware and the picture comes up on the monitor immediately. Any clues whatsoever?

Try waiting for a couple of minutes after connecting the monitor. Sometimes HDCP takes a while to evaluate the credentials of the new device.

Also, check the refresh rate of the signal being sent to the monitor. Some monitors have trouble doing 1080p@60Hz and need it to be dropped down to 24Hz.

After each change to the settings, wait a couple of minutes before deciding that the picture is not going to come.

I had the thing connected for 20 minutes and nothing. Anything else?

Did you try selecting 1920x1080@24Hz or 30Hz? Select from custom resolutions. Some older monitors can't do 1080p@60Hz.

This Dell monitor is actually really nice. When it was hooked up to my desktop in the past it was @60 hz. Also, when I hook it into the alienware instead of the Z it runs perfectly at 1680x1050 @ 60 hz. There isn't even an option for anything under 60. The Sony sees the monitor, allows me to play with the options of extending / cloning just like it's working, except no picture. What can I do?

Did you try a different monitor? Or the vga port?

I'll find a VGA cable and see if that works. This is the only monitor I've got.
