Does any else have this feature working under Windows 7?

I have everything functioning (incl. FN brightness and volume controls) in my partitioned install except this.

I have the switch itself set to "Stamina" but neither mode even brings up the little green light beside it. It is completely unresponsive.

Same thing here I'm on windows 7

I reinstalled all the drivers and got everything like Brightness Function keys working,
but the Stamina/Speed switch doesn't work & the little lights don't come on like they do in vista

I'm unclear about what nvidia driver I should install also
& have just installed the latest windows 7 beta driver... "181.71_geforce_win7_32bit_international_beta.exe"

Can someone clarify which driver file controls the stamina/speed switch??

My brightness Fn keys aren't working, but I have the little green light. I just made sure to install the NVidia drivers from the Sony eSupport website ( http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=VGNZ540&SelectOS=28 under 'Video'). At least that worked for me -- though I installed/uninstalled/reinstalled/restarted/restored about a billion different files, drivers, and settings, so maybe the right combination made it work okay though I doubt it. Still, the switch doesn't work for me nor do the brightness Fn keys like I had mentioned. Equally as frustrating, I can only get Stamina or Speed mode to work after restarting my computer with one or the other engaged. They don't change otherwise. And once I'm in Speed mode, I can't change the brightness settings. I can move the little bar, but it doesn't actually change the brightness at all. Let me know if anyone finds a fix.

I've been using the hot switching graphics on my Z with Win7 (6956) since early December.

    HotSwitchingOn7.jpg

I just followed the install instructions by MegamanX ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=293880&highlight=clean+install+vista) and with a bit of general tinkering, hey presto!

Persist and you will win! Sorry I can't be more helpful but I really can remember what else I did as it was about 3 months ago now.

Edit: I mean I followed to Vista clean install instructions but with Win7 instead

    I got it working

Up till now I had installed Nvidia Windows 7 beta drivers, Nvidia Windows Vista Current Drivers

What you NEED to install is the SONY NVIDIA driver software which I'm guessing has some extra software for controlling the stamina/speed switch

Before you install it, change your switch to SPEED, then run the graphics.exe installation file

After a reboot your switch & light should be working

Got everything working on windows 7 now...

the switch works, but what about the brightness controls?

On my Win7 install with Sony drivers, my switch works, but brightness controls only work for the intel video, not nvidia.

    Hi,

I have exactly the same problem.

I own a vaio VGN-Z21ZN, and I have recently installed W7, everything works, it's cool but the small green light of the stamina / speed switch remains always in stamina mode, even if I move the bar to speed mode. The only way to have Nvidia that works, is to reinstall the Nvidia drivers so that the graphic card is finally recognised, but as soon as I turn off the laptop, when restarting I lose again the Nvidia drivers.

    Any help?

    Thanks so much
    :D

Isn't there a software that does the switching as well? I broke my speed switch while taking my SZ2 apart... I might be able to fix it... but a software that does it for me would be more convenient... does it exist?

I've just upgraded my Vaio Z31 from Vista to Win 7 (32bit), and had to do a couple of things to get the stamina and speed switch working, requiring a few downloads from:

    http://support.vaio.sony.eu/computing/vaio/downloads/updates/index.aspx?l=en_GB&m=VGN-Z31MN_B&os=10

First, I had to download the nVidia driver uninstaller & run it to remove the default Win 7 graphics card driver. Then I had to run the BIOS updater R4044M3, before downloading the nVidia driver. After installing that and rebooting, all I then had to do was download & install the Vaio Event Service program. One reboot later and all the FN keys work, and the stamina-speed switch now works excatly as it did in Vista.

    I'm guessing here: http://esupport.sony.com/
click on "software drivers", or type in your model number: VGN-Zxxx
