If I recall correctly, the VPCZ1 has a "large capacity" battery but not a sheet battery available.

    Standard: VGP-BPS20
    Extended internal: VGP-BPL20

Approx how long is the charge/extra life for VGP-BPL20 actually? Sony says x1.5 times but we all know thats grealy exaggerated.

^It isn't exaggerated it all. It's 50% higher capacity, why wouldn't it give you 50% longer run time?

I'm selling a slightly used one so shameless plug. Check here for details. Its' rated at 7800mAh which is 1.5x original capacity. It greatly improves the runtime and allowed me to leave the a/c adapter at home and run it for a whole day at school.

Very small weight penalty and the hump provides a nice tilt to the keyboard. I highly recommend it.

I am planning to go on like a 20 hour flight next month, and I wanted to buy a extended battery for the plane ride. I plan to play Skyrim and Assasains creed revelations for that 20 hours :p (well maybe like 10-15 hours lol!).

Do you think this extra battery can support me playing a video game that long?

Maybe you can do word processing on the extended battery for 6 hours... maybe game for 1 hour.

Are you referring to the battery life of the standard, extended or both? I have both and will give you my experience with the extended range battery, which is exactly 1.5X the life of the standard one, assuming both have 0% degradation and begin 100% charged.

I don't game, ever, but here are some representative #s I've recently achieved

Word processing/MS Office, all radios off, minimal multitasking, screen brightness 50% - 6-7 hrs.

Same conditions as above but instead streaming 720 video onto Z screen from SSD using Intel gpu: 3-4 hrs

Same conditions but streaming 1080p video to HDTV via HDMI with no image on native screen - 2-2.5 hrs

If you bring two fully charged batteries, one std, one extended, multiply those numbers by 1.5

I would think if you are on that long a plane flight, it would be a newer aircraft that has AC power at the seat, no?

Most flights overseas have AC outlets. I flight Delta to TPE somewhat regularly and just plug in, although I'm in business class.

And if you're not in business class, you can always bring a long extension lead :)

As funny as that is, I do believe many (if not most) transcontinental flights have A/C power even in the slum cabin ;) I would check with your carrier.

So one of my flights has a EmPower port? What is this? Is this strong enough (give me enough voltage) for me to play a PC game on my laptop?

You'll need a power inverter with an em-power adapter (either as a single unit or by buying an inverter with a cigarette lighter adapter and then buying separately a cigarette lighter adapter-empower cable).

It's not amazingly efficient as you're going 15v DC->AC->20v DC but there's not much else you can do.

Something like this might be fine:

the XP18000 sounds like a good idea, except it might charge your laptop maybe once over, and mines... just failed a month ago (no warranty because i bought it off ebay) so... ymmv. Personally as a student, i thought it'd be helpful, but i just ended up bringing my power adapter as it was as heavy and more reliable
