    Hey guys,

I just bought a VPCZ1390X that had Windows 7 Pro but the previous owner installed Windows 8.

The Speed/Stamina Dynamic Hyrbrid Graphics system switch doesnt appear to toggle.

So the result is I cannot use the HDMI cable because I need to go from "Stamina" mode to "Speed" and it doesnt allow me to?

Is there a driver or some other word around to use the HDMI cable again?

    Let me know please

    Thanks in advance,

    M

You could try doing the BIOS hack that is referred to in this post:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/sony/602497-latest-vpc-z1-330m-drivers-bios-hack-people.html

Once you've installed the hacked BIOS, you will then have the option of switching between the intel and nVidia "manually" rather than automatically. I've never done it, but the way it works, so I understand is that you switch the switch to either speed or stamina, reboot and then the system will just see the one card (whether it is the intel or nvidia). So you can switch to stamina, reboot, and then windows just thinks you have an nVidia card (and you can then installed updated patched nvidia drivers as described in the post). Of course, that's assuming that the switch is not broken.

Note the usual risks of updating the BIOS, particularly to a hacked version, and the possibility of bricking the machine.

You need to look at the threads that tell you how to do a clean install of Windows 8 on your laptop. The switch won't work unless the proper Sony utilities have been installed in the right order, in addition to a compatible driver.
