What series does that European model equate to in the USA?
-
It's VGN-Z79x in the USA.
-
-
Ok, I've got an Australian addition Z36GD. I'm aware my model drivers aren't ready yet but what model would that be in American editions as it seems they're going to have the drivers up and running well before the Australian support site...
-
Does anyone tried Nvidia driver from eu site?
-
-
Going to try the EURO version. -

Tried - the problem is the BIOS Version listed in the information R4043M3 and R2170M3 - we think that this can be the solution to fix. Sony, give us the BIOS please!
-
I cant get the BIOS to install on my 790DMR sony Z. It says my version is not compatible. Windows7 64bit...
also i got my function keys to work just not the brightness ones. The buttons pop up the brightness +/- bar but I can't move or change the brightness. -
Which bios do you mean?
-
the 4041M3... also my speed/stamina buttons are useless/broken but im assuimg thats a common problem until a new bios/graphics driver?
-
wait i lied my everything on my comp cept the brightness buttons work. I just followed VGNxxx's instructions and then used the old 790DMR Vaio Z VistaBusiness64bit BIOs and Graphics Driver. THe stamina / speed thing works now.
-
What do you mean?
-
I mean I basically did everything VGNxxx said on page 11 of this thread. Then I installed the old vista bios and nvidia driver and now everything works cept the brightness function keys.
-
-
I found this:
ftp://ftp.vaio-link.com/pub/VAIO/WIN7UPGRADE/7UPG_BIOS_SONY_M3_R2170M3.ZIP
ftp://ftp.vaio-link.com/pub/VAIO/WIN7UPGRADE/7UPG_BIOS_SONY_M3A_R4043M3.ZIP
I don´t know if these bios are for z series -
Bingo, that's it.
@sh4rkt
Thank you -
Yeah, works like a charm
Edit: But NO SLIC 2.1 -
Bingo!!! Everything works now..... Finally, I have a perfect Z on Windows 7. Thanks for the link....
-
can anyone confirm brightnes in speed?
-
Thank you very much! Installation runs fine!
What´s about the brightnes control? Will it work or do i need an update for the sony tools? -
Brightness works
-
Without a restart? Restarted the vaio event service, but no brightness control.
-
ok, i flsshed up a new bios and what driver to install? new one from eu site(150mb) from us sony site (107.17mb) or what?
shoud i download 150 meg? -
They are the same.
-
Do i have to reinstal the vaio event service for working? In stamina mode no problem, only in speed...
-
Everything works, including the brightness in speed....
I had installed either EP0000208017 or EP0000208680 yesterday. (I forgot which one.) I used Stamina mode to avoid the split garbled screen in the last 24 hours. Right after I got the link, I installed the new Bios WITHOUT uninstall this video driver. Then, the split garbled screen in speed mode problem was corrected but the brightness control in speed mode was still not working. Then, I uninstalled the event service using control panel. Finally, I re-installed the event service for Z690 downloaded from the US website. Even the brigtness control in Speed mode work now...
My current Nvidia driver is 8.15.11.8684 according to device control.
If you still cannot make it work, I suggest that you use the video driver uninstall program to uninstall all the video driver and follow my procedures above to re-install video and event service. if you still cannot make it work, maybe you need a clean install... -
all is working now, i'm very glad!!
Win 7 perfomance rating is 4.3 (in Aero) but it was 4.4 with Vista drivers. =)
also it is 5.5 for 3d and was 4.4 in vista. -
ya!!
all is working now, too
in my vaio z16tn(taiwan). -
I wonder if we can install Windows 7 in UEFI mode now with the new BIOS
-
My 790DLX won't allow the install of the new BIOS sony has up for it. I'm at a loss.
-
Awesome. My VGN-Z610Y is working great now. Brightness control in both Stamina and Speed also the S1 and S2 keys now work.
And I even got it to keep my color profiles in both stamina and Speed even after going to sleep and switching modes.
Even Photoshop using OpenGL now works properly on both GPU's, Lightroom runs a lot faster as well.. before it had some major slowdowns when on the 9300.
I did notice some oddities with an external monitor though.. After testing some applications and changing gpu's while the monitor was plugged in to VGA I lost the ability to change the brightness until I switched gpu's again. Not really a big deal I guess.
Overall I am happy that Windows 7 is working pretty close to 100%. -
1) are you using the 4043 Bios? When I downloaded it from the FTP site it looked like it may have been for one of the Japenese models, so I was hesitant to install.
2) which nvidia driver are you using, as they have yet to put a Win 7 video driver up for the Z6xx support pages.
Dan -
Hmmm - great new for Speed mode - Stamina doesn't enter properly. Brightness controls STOP working!
Is there an order to things to get this back?
For example, power then event installation? -
on sunday i will try all the new drivers in a fresh install of my z41
in the esupport i can't find the update of the utility, i have to use the same version of vista? -
WOW!! Everything works perfect after the BIOS is updated. No need to re-install any of the drivers at all. Wonderful! thank you for the BIOS link
-
Well stick pencils up my nose and bibble. I fixed it! AND I'm using 5.0 of the Vaio Event service (pretty alpha blended overlays).
What I did was run the nvidia uninstalled from Sony.
Then I went to device manager and delete the PnP Intel 45 Express driver.
Then I went through the whole of the registry and removed all 45 Express driver references.
Then I rebooted and installed the Sony NVidia driver.
Tada, works.
I think that if Microsoft PnP attempts to install an Intel 45 Express driver then it buggers up the Sony NVidia concoction.
Soooooooooooooo happy. -
Where and which nvidia drivers are you guys using? I dunno where to check mine. Under device manager under display adapters I actually only see the intel one.
-
-
hey guys on my laptop it says i got a z530n
but on the box it says i have a z530n/b
not sure if it matters much, also any luck with the video driver on the 530? -
Sony's website for Europe is active and issuing useful information and updates for Windows 7.
For example, http://support.vaio.sony.eu/computing/vaio/downloads/updates/index.aspx?l=en_GB&m=VGN-Z31WN_B&os=10
If you're fighting Z series problems then use the sony uninstaller, update your bios as instructed and installed the new Windows 7 Sony drivers. In this case, 8.15.11.8684.
If you're using Windows 7 with a Vaio Z then you definitely can't use your brightness control and possibly get a garbled screen when using various new drivers with NVIDIA.
That is, until you do these steps with s/w Sony's only just released. -
Don't sweat it. -
-
I have the a Z11WN running Windows Business, if I upgrade (not clean install) to Windows 7 trough this link, will everything work? In my Z I have this BIOS: R2169M3.

You MUST use the NVidia Graphics uninstall update BEFORE the install of the NVIDIA update, but otherwise you're good to go.
Prior to upgrading, boot your machine using your Vista DVD; in the repair section you can back up your PC. Do this just in case you do some upgrade steps out of order.
Now run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor and follow its advice.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...FamilyID=1b544e90-7659-4bd9-9e51-2497c146af15
Then upgrade. Once you have a decent looking system, again, backup, but this time with the Windows 7 backup.
Then mess about.
Windows 7 is slick. While Vista took 6 months to a year to stabilize the drivers, Windows 7 will pretty much work out of the box like you've been using it for years.
Vaio Z Windows 7 Official driver available now!!
