Vaio Z Windows 7 Official driver available now!!

I upgraded my Z620D to Windows 7 32-bit, and looks like everything works now, including brightness F5 and F6 keys.

Initially, I used drivers and upgrades from Sony Canada Z620D page: http://esupport.sony.com/CA/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=VGNZ620D&SelectOS=46 including BIOS R4041M3, Firmware Extension Parser Device Driver, shared library, event service and etc.

Brightness worked only in the stamina mode. In the speed mode, I could not adjust brightness neither with F5/F5 not through the Power Options Screen.

I followed the instructions from Sony Europe Z3 Page to upgrade the NVIDIA driver http://support.vaio.sony.eu/computing/vaio/downloads/updates/index.aspx?l=en_GB&m=VGN-Z3&os=10 . First, NVIDIA uninstall with nVidia Graphics driver uninstaller 1.0.0910150 (the computer has to be in the speed mode, as their instructions say), then upgraded to BIOS R4043M3, then installed nVidia Graphics driver 8.15.11.8684.

Brightness F5/F6 still did not work in the speed mode, but now I could adjust screen brightness in the Power Options screen.

Lastly, I tried event service 5.0.0.07100. With this version, F keys stopped working altogether in both modes, but after I reinstalled back event service version 5.0.0.07130 and restarted the machine, everything worked, including F5 and F6 in the speed mode.

I wish Sony made the transition to Windows 7 easier for us. Looks like they are not quite prepared or don't care enough about their customers who already bought their computers.

 

Im using a Sony Vaio VGN-Z530N/B, but when I looked at the support site of sony, there is no Windows 7 drivers for this model. http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=VGNZ530NB&SelectOS=46

Can I use the driver from other Z models? And I also found this Sony Vaio VGN-Z21MN/B it is similar to the VGN-Z530N/B, however, it is sold in UK; can I use the drivers for that model instead?

 

Yea, same Question as userman777. I have the Z555DN, and im looking at the VGN-Z690C drivers, can I upgrade my BIOS version to R4041M3? I am very worried about doing it. But I would like to assume there all gonna be the same as I did look through most of the Z models, and they all have the same Bios upgrade model. What you guys think??

I tried a clean install of win 7 64 ultimate on my z590 vista business 32 bit.
I think I may have cocked up at the start of install. As I have the right bios but am looking at lots of bsod's and hard restarts.
When i inserted the win 7 disk and selected custom install I reached a window that gave me partition options.
vista had a small recovery partition and a large data partition.
Win 7 refused to install in either so I deleted them and somehow created more partitions till win 7 accepted one.
Win 7 installed and i checked the bios and started to install updates.
Now I get a blue screen when I try to reinstall so I am now going through the repair your computer stage.
Any help appreciated!
I have Firestones guide and have a usb folder of 64 drivers etc,
sony says the 570n is supported by win 7 but offers no drivers on its site.

Sony released two new BIOSes for that model, the latest of the two is the only one that will work under Windows 7. Although it should not cause BSODs.

The way I installed Win 7 64 bit on my Z31, I set the graphics slider to SPEED mode, plug in USB containing Win 7, reboot, enter Win 7 setup. Now on the partition options page, I also have 3 partitions, 1 was the recovery partition, 1 was MBR (not to worry about this one) and the other was the Windows Vista partition. All I did was delete the Vista partition, so that it left me with recovery partition, an MBR partition and unalocated space.

I selected the unalocated space, then -without- creating any additional partition, I clicked next to proceed installing Windows on that unalocated space.

I have a UK Z31 and using a mix of Win 7 drivers from Z890 US version, Z5 UK version (since these two comes with pre-installed Win 7 and the drivers are there on their respective support pages), and a couple of drivers from Z31's support page. All in working order.

 

Thanks for that, please tell me what the advantage of putting win 7 on the usb stick is?
I have a shop bought copy of ultimate and thought it would work out of the box by now
I understand that a lot of users on the forum have had beta versions working for some time and so had to get around the lack of drivers from Sony

Installing Win 7 from USB stick is way faster than from DVD, that's all.

 

Need Help- My computer (Vaio Z530N) will not/can no longer boot into windows, and I cannot (re)install windows 7. I can create partitions just fine, but I keep getting an error message every-time I try to load windows files on the primary partition. What is puzzling is that sometimes I get a message telling me the reason I cannot load windows is that my hard drive is in GPT format, and sometimes the message is that my harddrive is in EFI format and that I should change the format to NTFS in order to install windows. It's frustrating that there is no option to change/covert partition formats so I am at a loss as to what to do. I have tried everything I could think of, and more. Could it be that my hard drive is dead? I am not sure because the HDD indicator light is flashing whenever I delete/extend/create a partition. Has anyone ever experienced this, or know what this could be. Let me know asap. Need to get the computer up and running before the end of the week......

 

The easiest way is to delete all the partitions and let Windows create it. This way, you don't need to understand GPT and MBR.
Btw, has anyone tried installing Windows 7 in EFI mode with the new Bios? I really want to know if we still have BSOD

 

I have had windows create the partitions, but the OS will still not install.

 

If you install the SATA's driver, don't do it. If it's not the case, it's really wierd

I updated my bios, but can't find drivers for video

i get the garbled right screen too

 

I am not getting any output from the HDMI port. When I connect the cable it recognizes the TV as being connected however will not pass any video or audio to the screen.

Help?

 

Sorry for late answer... It seems we are the only two with this problem... I have not resolved it but now it comes more seldom... 1 of 5 boots...

After moving my Vaio FZ11SR to Win7 it can't find my camera.
Device manager got only Imaging Devices > USB Video Device which 'supposed' to be in-built Webcam i guess.

Any thoughts how to fix it? thx

p.s. after moving to Win7 home premium (clean installation) i've downloaded and installed all drivers, utilities and updates for my series from sony site.

Sorry for being an idiot. I downloaded the drivers and think I installed all of them for a VGN-Z610Y but my function keys don't work.

 

Same problem here on Vaio Z21WN/B
USB Video Device appears but no webcam either in skype/Camera Capture Utility and so on.
tried dozens of ricoh drivers , no luck

 

Refer my FZ clean install guide.

 

this driver works for FZ but not on Z it hangs the complete system
btw anybody knows the version of the camera on Z

You need to install the original webcam driver that came with your Z.

 

there is the problem, don't have it anywhere
and vaio online support does not provide it for Z models

 

Try installing the Arcsoft web companion software in the support page (if available). Sony doesn't provide webcam drivers for their newer models.

 

You can download it from US support here Sony eSupport - VPCZ1190X - Software Updates & Drivers
You should extract the exe using Uniextract software and run the setup found in the Tempexe folder.

He has a VGN-Z, not a VPC-Z. It's different.
Try going to Sony eSupport - Electronics and enter a comparable model number, like Z-690. The ArcSoft camera software is definitely there for download.

On the other hand, have anyone with a VGN Z been able to install WinDVD in W7? I can download it, and install it, and it says it's successful, but after it's finished, there's no WinDVD anywhere on the HD...

 

Sony doesn't provide model specific Web Companion software. I knew what model Z he had. The latest version of the software is available only for the newer models. Any third party software can be installed in any Vaio model.

so, if anybody who owns a vaio VGN-Z could hve a look and tell me what is the name of the webcam and the driver in system/device manager i would be very thankful for that

Well, I have tried to get all the info I should need to upgrade my VGN-Z21XN to Windows 7 64 bit version. I did a new full fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64 (so no upgrade). Tried to upgrade the Bios with files I found here and tried several x64 Nvidia drivers. However, always the garbage split screen :S

Can anybody tell me which exact Bios I need for my Z21XN and which NVIDIA driver? And possible, where to download?! Thanks a lot!!!
