I started to look for replacement of my lovely lenovo x301 laptop and Sony z was one I really liked until I did some search for external monitor support at 2560x1600 res. I have 2 Dell 30" monitors and I have been using them for the last 3 or so years first with lenovo T61p (using docking station with dual link DVI) and later with lenovo x301 (using build in display port). I still cannot believe that there is no way to connect top of the line Sony laptop to 30" monitor but I could not find any success stories online. X301 does not even have dedicated graphics and still support 2560x1600. Did I miss anything? Is there any way around? Thanks.

may you should think about a ViDock 2.

Maybe Matrox has some external monitor solutions too

Your resolution is very high and is not supported by some Desktop VGA Cards as well.
