I have a Vaio Z520 that come originally with Win Vista.
Recently, I installed in Win 7 on it and everything work great except keyboard short cut to adjust screen brightness and volume control, and battery burn really quick compare to Vista.
I only can make 2 hours out of the battery before it come to fully exhausted.
Anyone know a solution to my problem, please post it here.
    Thank you.

While a Z series notebook is leaps and bounds better than a netbook with it's slow Atom processor but good battery life, there have been reviews on some netbooks stating that with pretty much the same hardware of a new netbook running Win 7 comparing to it the previous version running XP, that battery run times were 1 to 2 hours less in most cases with the netbooks running Win 7.

I changed to 7 about 2 months ago. I have really battery life. In fact, I noticed lasting 5-6hours on stamina, about 2-3. I am not using any Sony Software and using windows 7 to control power. I played with the power settings as well but leave on highest performance for speed mode.
I would uninstall sony battery control if you have that..Turn off the DVD drive and remove discs if in

So no body have an answer or Sony never release a patch to fix this?If I cant find a solution to this, I would have to sell my Sony because I need battery life.

HOW did you install Win7? A clean install or an in place upgrade? If a clean install, did you install all of the required Sony libraries and drivers?

What about the libraries? What sequence did you install them in? I am only asking this because drivers alone on a Vaio is NOT enough, and it ounds like you are missing the power management functions.

I don't have a link, but I am pretty sure there is one or more threads here about a clean install of Win7 on a Z model. If you did not install the libraries and auxiliary apps but only installed the drivers, this would explain why you are seeing the battery issue. Be aware that the SEQUENCE in which you install all of this stuff is VERY important.

Recommend you download and install Sony Power Management software. I noticed that I would get 3-5 hours without it. . After tweaking windows and sony power management i get 6 hours on youtube browsing and 10 hours on idle.

There is a known problem with Windows 7 and the bios of laptop manufacturers that causes this battery drain.

For some reason, it seems to have a greater impact on Sony laptops. No solutions yet, other than keep your laptop plugged in at all times.

It is NOT a greater impact on Sony laptops in general. I have been running Win7 on a FZ model with better battery life than under Vista. The only instances of quick drain of the battery I have seen here are when the proper drivers and utilities are not loaded.

There is a separate battery drain issue, where the battery looses power even when off. But that is not specific to Win7.
