    Vaio Z drive connection

    Hey all, I really love this forum, great members and great info.

    Here's my situation. I really want the Vaio Z for the combination of its weight and power but I can't afford the regular asking price. On the Sony Japan outlet website I specd the vaio z with hdd for an amazing price of 120,000 yen.

    I want to know what connector the hdd has. In the future I want to replace it with an intel 2.5 ssd. The hdd has to have a regular sata connector right? Wouldn't I be able to just swap the drives?

    If anyone has experience with a vaio z with stock hdd, I would love to hear from you. I now live in Japan and can read Japanese so I have no problems ordering. Thanks in advance.

    Oh dear, please, why don't you first have a look in the forums?
    You find much info on this topic.

    The hdd is a standard 2.5" sata with 9.5mm height. You can connect any 2.5" laptop hard drive / SSD.

    vaio z use 1.8" hdd. you can replace the optical driver by a hdd caddy and use 2.5" hdd.

    That would be if my Z had a ssd. Mine is coming stock with hdd instead of an optical drive. So I wouldn't need a caddy, to my knowledge anyway. Thanks though.

    If with SSD, then 1.8" with mini SATA (most 1.8" drives utilized miniSATA, by default).

    Z11 revision, and I think the Z12, too.

    For the HDD only (no optical drive) VAIO Z models, it is a straight forward swap of the HDD for any 2.5" SSD of your choice. :)

    I'm glad to see you finally got to know more about the Internet forums :) I hope you have a good time!

    And oh like I told you before, the VPC-Z1 uses the standard SATA connector (not slimline). You can replace the HDD with a 2.5" drive, like one of them Intel X-25Ms.

    Great thanks for all the advice. Your mother is grateful. I think im going to pull the trigger. I don't think you can get any lower than 120,000 yen or about 1200 dollars. if anyone else lives in japan heres the link. I specd mine down because anything is a big jump coming from my 3 yr old comp.
