hi guys. I bought a vaio z two weeks ago, and loved it, smal, light, but still very powerful. Fortunately its dvd drive wasn't ok, so I returned it. I read somewhere that a new generaton /platform of intel processors, core i7 mobile, will launch late september or early october, so I am asking you guyz:

Do you think that it will really launch on that time?

is it worth to wait and get when it is out?

will it be the same price range?

This is something I am thinking and wondering about too.

I would say the rumours are most likely to be true. I have read the news from quite a few websites and it really makes sense to get a new processor out in conjunction with the launch of Windows 7.

The four core i7 may be out in the fall; but Arrandale, which is the two core with integrated graphics, isn't slated to be out until January or so. Engadget recently posted some Lenovo slides suggesting that their T-series refresh won't hit until the beginning of year, which jives with this.

I expect the new platform will be about 30% faster for a given clock speed and at the same relative price points that we see today; and it's possible that we may also see a refresh of the Nvidia graphics chip as well.

That being said, I don't expect the design to differ much, given that it'll only be about 18 months old. Nor do I suspect we'll see the same deals (JR, Microcenter, Costco) that we're seeing today. Given the new platform, PC vendors will try to push their product at full price at least for a few months after launch...

net-net: buy now and get the current product at a discount, or wait 5-6 months, but expect to pay full price...but you'll end up getting a slightly faster laptop...

I understand one can never keep up with technology but I would like to have at least the latest generation of processor available. Vaios are so expensive, the last thing I want is to have an out-of-date processor platform after only 2-3 months of ownership.

If you can afford to wait for Arrandale, do it. If you can afford to wait longer for better Arrandales, do it. Really, wiat as long as you can afford to, it's just inherently better. You'll get the newer technology, or the generation behind it will be cheaper
