Anyone besides me notice that the the premium carbon fiber lid option on the sony vaio z has disappeared off of Sonystyle for about 2 weeks now?

Maybe it's a manufacturing or supplier issue. Another possibility could be it's not as popular an option as some people here think?

Having a Z590 CTO with "premium carbon fiber", I say it's not worth it. It looks like charcoal plastic, feels like plastic, bends like plastic, sounds like plastic, and in most light conditions the parallel lines don't show up at all. When they do, they're not noticable unless you tilt it and look for them. Oh, and forget using the nice leather wrap for the Z if you have carbon fiber, because the tack tabs won't stick.
The only redeeming feature I see is that it's relatively easy to wipe fingerprints off it.

I cannot find any images of the Premium lid - but there was a noticable difference on the SZ - the premium lid was a brownish color and I could pretty easily see the carbon weave. Are you saying yours doesn't look like that?

Yes. You can't see a weave at all. You can see stripes (like brushed aluminium) if you tilt it almost parallel to and pointing towards a strong light source. Otherwise, it looks pretty much like any other charcoal plastic. So I'm not sure what's so "premium" about it.

Looks like more of a brushed look than a CF weave - but it looks great nonetheless! [IMG]

Here's the press shot - I definitely see what you mean when you say horizontal stripes. And the lighting has to be just right to see them.

Arth1: You own one and have tried with the leather wrap tabs?

I have the leather wrap, but I don't actually connect the top becaue I dock (so I only use it when I'm not docking for awhile).
