Hi,
I just recently upgraded my Z from Vista x64 to Windows 7.
I am having a problem with the function keys though.
Everything works except the brightness controls both in stamina and speed mode.
I tried reinstalling numerous drivers but nothing seems to work.
Does anyone know the fix for this issue?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
I have a Z790CJ model if that is any help![]()

install the firmware extension parser using WINDOWS 7 UPDATE... do not use the one sony provided... then install the share library, and utilities series. it should get all of your FN keys working... as for the additional keys tha'ts not on a standard keyboard, I don't think they work....

You can get the latest Sony drivers off their ftp website. But then, I did a clean install using a MSDNAA W7 so can't really comment on upgrades.
The companion disc that comes with the W7 upgrade promo seems to be messed up, according to some of me mates who applied for it - some drivers don't seem to work. -
Hello errorrrr,
I got the upgrade kit from sony for my Z790 but after the installation the function keys are not working........
I also download the share library and utilities from sony support for my model but still nothing changed.
would please let me know the links in order to download the right share library and utilities series ?
Happy Holidays -
thepinkpanter you need to follow this guide. Read the entire thread because you will mostly find that someone has resolved your issue.
Others have got it working with no problems.

or how can I unistall the upgrade and start again?
thank you Rachel and have a fantastic 2010! -
Read the guide Rachel provided again, carefully this time. Specifically the part where it tells you to upgrade your bios.
-
Bingo!
sigma957 was right! but for his model..........
the problem I had before was because I used the same Bios he used,
finally this morning I decided to use the new Bios update R4044M3 for my model and everything working fine for now.......no more half screen with strips and the F5 and F6 working fine.
also yesterday I did a short chat with Sony support and he suggested to reinstall again the Nvidia driver and the shared library and after Vista and repeat the upgrade.......well don't need to do it.....
Happy New Year -

well...since after I did my lucky update, every day I did a short double check to vaio Z790DLX support regarding the new nvidia update and just yesterday happeared the new "video" update to the vaio Z790DLX support web page,
open the below link in order to get the NVIDIA® GeForce® 9300M GS Video Driver Update and
NVIDIA® Graphics Driver Uninstaller
http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu...=5394&os_id=47

finally sony did it........
have a good day -
thepinkpanter, I understand that Sony has provided a new graphics driver for the NVIDIA adapter. However, I was asking about the "Vaio Update" program itself. It is supposed to query the Sony site and then list any software updates you don't already have. I have never gotten that program to work, but I thought from your post that you had.
It looks like you were just checking the site manually, and not using Vaio Update, correct? -
Hello Grampa........
yes ! as I wrote before I found it by myselfe , anyway the good thing is that finally Sony placed some proper update for my model...and I hope for all vista models ,
when the first time I fixed my laptop after the upgrading I used drivers/software from other vaio z models ..........the machine was working but not with the own software and honestly didn't like so much as solution,
and finally few days ago I found the new update for my model.
have a good day
